Cooling Off

Everyday the younger boys ask if they could swim.  All they want to do is swim.  After they strip down to nothing leaving a trail of clothes behind them to wiggle into their still wet swim trunks from the day before, it doesn't take them long to just jump right in.
It takes us older kids and adults a little more time to psyche ourselves into the cold water.
But when we do, the younger kids enjoy the water all the more.
Even I spent a good hour in the pool over the weekend.  Running circles around the edge of the pool to make a whirlpool was quite the leg workout.

Ten Things

Ten things about the past three months.

1.  Our bathroom has been under construction for three months.  The hold up was our shower which ended up needing to be retiled.  It should finally be done this weekend.

2.  Our two chickens have started laying eggs.  They are very loving chickens.  They follow us around, eat out of our hands, let us pet them, and do tricks for us.

3.  Our girl kitty is pregnant.  Sveta is soooooooooo excited!

4.  William earned his GED and will have a graduation ceremony through the college he earned it through.

5.  Adam earned his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and will walk/graduate next month.  He returns in September for the master's program.

6.  Julia completed her CNA training.

7.  Two of our kids were in a car accident.  Neither was hurt... praise the Lord.

8.   William has been pretty sick these last two weeks with gastrointestinal issues.  We went to the ER yesterday morning.  He had the same pain/cramping issues again this morning.  We have an appt. with a specialist tomorrow.  Praying for answers.

9.  A few nights ago John and I saw the first fireflies of this year.  They are so much fun to watch.

10.  Nolan has become an amazing swimmer.  He can dive in the pool and collect five dive sticks in one breath!

Building a Chicken Coop

John and the boys built a nice, big chicken coop.  We all love it, including the chickens.

School Fieldtrip

A few weeks ago, Natalie and Oliver's class went on a trip to the Caldwell Zoo. Sveta and I joined them.  I was impressed with how nice this zoo is.  The variety of animals, the well kept walkways, and lovely landscape exceeded my expectations.

We all enjoyed our trip to the zoo!

Home Improvement

Our dining room used to have carpet. White carpet at that.  Not very practical to say the least.
After getting quotes to remove the carpet and old vinyl tiles and then to install vinyl planks, I decided I could do it myself.
With a little help...
the floor was prepped.
That is when I went to work.  I have to admit it was very challenging at first.  I actually installed the first three rows backward.  Once I figured that out, I started over and the process of cutting and snapping the planks into place became much quicker.
So quick that it only took me five or so weeks to complete.  I know, I know.  Not very impressive, but it was a huge accomplishment for me.  And we saved a ton of money doing it ourselves.
We had the walls re-textured and painted too.
Here is the finished room.
We gave our living room walls the same treatment.

The funny thing is, I tried about five different colors on the walls and I didn't like any of them so I went back to the color I chose for our other house-- Behr's Pale Wheat.
Everything is coming together.  I love how our house feels like home.

Texas Wildflowers

The flowers that grace the roadside and open fields are gorgeous.  I admire them every time I drive somewhere.  I kept telling myself I am going to stop and pick the flowers, but I never did... until now.
Lucky and Mittens both seemed to enjoy them too,

With all the April showers, I hope there are even more May flowers.

~Stop and enjoy the simple things in life.~
