Look at Oliver!

Do you remember when Oliver was one year old? He was so little... so far behind developmentally... it was too soon to tell how fast he would catch up or if even at all.
Well look at him now just five years later.
Oliver learned how to swim this summer!

Oliver now regularly holds his pencils and crayons the correct way and actually enjoys coloring!

Oliver understands how to be intentionally playful.  He can make a silly face for a picture.  He knows how to playfully tease with you as if to say-- ha ha you didn't get me!

And this summer he learned how to peddle his tricycle!

This summer has been such an amazing one of growth for Oliver.  It is exciting to watch him learn so many new things.  Today we go to his school to meet his (and Natalie's) new teacher.
Oliver's vocabulary is continually expanding as he learns to talk and I am sure he will make even more progress this year in first grade.

Making Bouquets

Now that Julia's wedding is over, I can look back and see how crazy and wonderful it was to do everything ourselves.   We decorated the chapel and reception hall.  We made all the food.  We did each other's hair and makeup and we made all the bouquets and corsages.  It was quite a learning experience and it certainly wouldn't have been possible without all the help from family and friends.
Thank you to all!

After the rehearsal dinner but before fireworks, we got to work making bouquets.

Even Oliver helped!

Thomas and Julia's Rehearsal Dinner

Julia and Thomas decided to have their rehearsal dinner at our house with not only family and their wedding party but with everyone who traveled from California for their wedding as well.  We had a full house!
Before we ate we all gathered around the kitchen in a huge circle to hold hands in prayer.

Anastasia shared a short devotional (something we have our kids take turns
doing when it is their day to do dishes).

We served all kinds of pizza, spinach salad, cut up veggies with dip, watermelon,
rice krispy treats and brownies.

It was so nice getting to spend time with friends and family for such a special event.

Ten Sons

It was such a blessing having all our boys home this past week.
Here is a picture of them from youngest to oldest.
John joined our sons in the next picture.
Grandpa joined in this last picture.
After I took the picture half of the kids jumped into the pool!

The Rehearsal

It has been an amazing weekend.  We had the privilege of celebrating Thomas and Julia's wedding on Saturday.  Here are two pictures from the rehearsal.

It's All Happening So Fast

Last week was slow enough that the kids were playing games.
Then Rebecka showed up which prompted wedding festivities to officially start.
Here is Julia facetiming with her brothers who are driving through Arizona as we speak.  They are due here tomorrow afternoon!
We thought it would be fun to take a break and go to the lake.  The kids enjoyed swimming and canoeing.

With extra friends and family here we are cooking even more now.  Five chicken pot pies!
Sarah flew in a few days ago.  She is going to do Julia's hair for her wedding.
In fact, Sarah is going to all of the girls' hair.
Sarah also helped with all the wedding signs.

Tonight John and the girls played card games while listening to the music playlist for the wedding.
Aunt Tanya joined in the fun.
I'm sure this post doesn't make a lot of sense with all the different pictures-- but right now life around here is pretty crazy.  Crazy in a good and amazing way though so it's okay!  Julia and Thomas are getting married this Saturday!

Burgers Anyone?

We used to take a few of the kids out to dinner at a time.  It was a nice way to get in quality time.  Since it had been awhile, we decided to take our middle boys (and Antoine) out for burgers.  We heard that The Butcher Shop served a great burger so that is where we went.
The night we went happened to be "buy a burger, get another for $1.00".  Score!
Our burgers came plain and then we got to add toppings and condiments like chili, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, mustard, etc.  Everyone enjoyed their "just the way I like it" burger.
For dessert we all got something from the bakery.  Yum!  We wanted to go to Synergy Park to walk off dinner, but it was closed.  Maybe next time.

Two Little Peacocks

Back in June while I was out in California with all the kids, John bought two baby peacocks.   He was in love.  He did lots of research and found someone who raised them along with other birds who was very helpful.  Despite all the discussions between the two of them, they did not discuss the possibility of what happened to these two babies.
John wanted to surprise us all.

But he didn't get the chance.
The morning of the day we were going to be home John went out to
check on his two babies.

To his horror, he found this rat snake instead.
Quite upset, John called to tell me.
I guess this is quite common out here.  It was still very sad.
Rather than kill the snake (like I would have done), John drove it out to a place where it could be left alone and let it go.
