Summer vacation is almost over. We've been spending lots of time together-- a lot of it spent cooking. Today we made homemade yeast donuts. What a learning experience.
I didn't have a candy thermometer so it took some time figuring out the right temperature for frying nice golden brown donuts.
The last half of the batch of donuts came out great!
It didn't take long for the kids to polish off seven dozen donuts!

In our house (we were all homeschooled), the first day of school was donut day. My mom would make a HUGE batch of donuts for our breakfast. We didn't have icing though, we dipped them in applesauce. It was a great way to celebrate the start of a new school year!

Brings back such memories as Baboonya always was making homemade donuts. Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did when I was a kid.

Funny, my sister and a friend just made baked donuts here, they made 50+ and most of them were devoured within 12 hours. :)
