It is finally the weekend. And we are celebrating a birthday. I went to a Mexican food store to stock up on corn on the cob. 6 for $1 is a great price so I bought enough to freeze some too!
Tonight we are barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers with potato salad and corn on the cob. Yum!
Galina shucked the corn.
This picture of William is quite funny. We have a rule-- No elbows on the table. Yesterday table etiquette was taught to the girls during Nutrition. After so much grief over the no elbow rule, they finally saw that John and I were not just making up crazy rules but we are actually trying to teach good table manners. They get it.
William does not. He still finds ways to have his elbows up at the table without them actually being on the table.
Things going on in the Reed house currently:
battling ants in the yard
preparing for Dennis' upcoming surgery
preparing lesson plans for two theme units on Microbes and Islands
trying to plan and budget for a vacation in Winter
cutting up old t-shirts to make rugs
composting
school
trying to get Jacaranda seeds to germinate
What are you up to?

I learned this song in 5th grade summer camp and taught my children. At first, everyone tries to get "caught" with elbows on the table, but singing and walking gets old fast:
Child's name, Child's name
Strong and able
Get your elbows off the table
This is not a barn yard stable
But a first class dining table
'Round the table you must go*
You must go
You must go
'Round the table you must go
My fair (Child's name)
They must get up and walk around the table during the singing. We all crack up at first, but after about 3 times, the walker usually gets pretty over it.
*This part is song to the "London Bridges" tune
Peace!
You sure have a lot going on. :) As for the ants, if you've never tried it I give it 100% Works everytime indoor or out.
1/2 and 1/2 Borax and Powdered icing sugar. Sprinkled lightly around ant filled area. (After we sprinkled we didn't allow our kids or pets on that area for 12 hours or so. Re-apply after a rain if ants are still there.)
*I usually add just a bit more borax than 1/2.

I stocked up on 6 for $1 corn also and froze some for later. Yum!
Our oldest daughter rebels against table manners. I need to make she never sees that picture of him at the table or she will try that!!
This is how I get my kernels off the cob to save for freezing! Easy!

I am about to wage war on fleas. I am almost surprised the dog still lives they love her so much.
I am about to wage war with my mother's bank. The faraway branch refuses to recognize my POA and will not relinquish an Individual Retirement Fund to a different financial institution.
I am about to begin a new year of babysitting. Not sure if I'm ready or not.
We pay $5/dozen for sweet corn.
Wowzers! We're not up to that much! LOL! Love your family!!! What is Dennis having done?
We had that same deal on corn here recently, the kids were so happy to see all the corn coming into the house!
What do we have going on? I just had a baby two weeks ago. My hubby is finishing his Phd and graduating next month. We are buying a house out of state and preparing for that move! Right now school (for the kids) is writing papers about the state we are currently living in, lots of reading, some math review and just enjoying and learning from all we have going on. I'm looking forward to getting on with our school year once we get into our new home.
Hi! Corn around here was not cheap gone are the days of 12 ears for a dollar. Also much of the corn was kinda dry or did not grow as well as it had in the past years.Good luck with home schooling. Get a professional for the ants. Pat
