Last year we met a fine young man named Sasha. At the time I thought nothing of it because I was wrapped up in the adoption of Anastasia and Paul. He hung around us... quietly... patiently... respectfully... he stood out as different. When it was time to say goodbye, Rachel was in love, and Sasha had made a permanent impression. All we could do is pray for him, and trust that God would do the rest if it was His will.
Not knowing if we would ever be in touch again, Rachel wrote to him-- the letter came back undeliverable. Months passed. A letter from Sasha finally came! It was hard to communicate through snail mail so I emailed our facilitator with the orphanage director's phone number and Sasha's full name. They gave out his phone number only because Sasha had aged out of the orphanage.
After numerous disconnected phone numbers, we finally got in touch with Sasha. He was alive... and well! As Rachel and Sasha emailed back and forth, we continued to pray that God would open doors.
Then we are introduced to River of Joy through two different people. Boom-- a phone call out of the blue. And little by little we saw God opening a door. With Sasha in Donetsk and ROJ in Crimea I wasn't sure of the connection, but I went ahead and introduced the two. My prayer was for Sasha to go to ROJ to work, to be around good influence, and to get closer to the Lord.
Well God is good! It is a miracle! Sasha is at ROJ! And his relationship with the Lord is growing. I'm smiling. He isn't because Russians just don't smile very often in pictures. We'll see about that. When I see him, I am going to insist on showing some teeth!

SO COOL! There are NO COINCIDENCES in life. Its HIS plan! Will you be blogging from ROJ?
That is AMAZING - and WONDERFUL!
I bet Rachel wishes she could go with you! That's awesome that Sasha gets to go to the camp, I hope you get to spend some quality time with him.
Hi! It is weird how God works in stranger ways. Maybe someday Sasha could come to America. Good luck,Pat
What great news. It makes you realize how even the smallest effort on your part in bring the two together, Sasha and ROJ, has hopefully changed his life for the better. And how wonderful you will get to see him soon. When do you leave and what is the best way to contribute to ROJ, through you, or their website or blog?
I am smiling.... God is so good...praises and blessings to you...enjoy your time at ROJ, I am so jealous that I don't get to go... I will be there next summer... :)
