The first was an ENT (Ear Nose Throat doctor). Now mind you, these doctors are all new to us. I was a bit hesitant going to this particular ENT because she does not work with the Children's Hospital but since she was able to get Dennis in so quickly and I didn't need a separate appointment for his hearing test, I thought I would give her a try.
I am so glad that I did. They called us back immediately and the doctor was super nice. She had nothing but amazing things to say about the ocularist that Dennis is seeing which was an added bonus. She saw that Dennis' ears were clogged with wax and as she cleaned them out, she removed his old tubes. This is what they looked like.

When I mentioned our potential future plans for our family, she suggested that Dennis have these kind of tubes put in his ears because they can last up to four years instead of the normal one year that his other tubes lasted.

In a couple of weeks, Dennis will have new tubes in his ears! The audiologist said that Dennis hearing should improve as soon as the drainage is gone from his ears.
Later this afternoon we went and saw an Oculoplastic Surgeon that came highly recommended. Unlike the last ocuplastic surgeon, this one was very optimistic laying out two, possibly three surgeries in the next few months. He wants to make a lower lid and then an upper lid both requiring skin grafts that will be taken from behind one of his ears and his chest. And finally... he says that he can work on a tear duct for Dennis so that his eye can properly drain. How awesome that would be!
When I called our primary care physician's office to thank them for the timely referrals, the nurse reminded me that I had not followed up with Alex's catheter size. I was blown away with her reminder... ever so thankful.

Potential future plans for our family? Did I miss something? Huh?
Glad you found doctors you are comfortable with. So important.
They all sound like excellent doctors, I am so glad that you found them. The fact that you like them is also an added bonus!
Christine, I had the same tubes put in my ears in March. They're called T-tubes. The only downside to them is they cause more scarring to the ear drum, but for me, I MUST have them for flying. And, as you know, I'm doing A LOT of that lately.
Awesome to start medical cares rolling!
I also noticed the mention of possible future plans ... I'm making some assumptions for possibility as to what this means! :-)
Wait, wait, wait....back the bus up!!...I read every entry on your wonderful blog, but now feel as though I may be developing a serious case of the 'forgetfuls':)....."Potential future plans"???? Dish, please!
The new plans for Dennis' eye sounds terrific!!
Christine,
It sounds like that you are in with a wonderful group of Doctors. It really shows when you have been with one set that is good but obviously you were not thrilled with, and then you get with some that actually impress you and make you feel comfortable with their care of your child. It sounds like these guys are great and I am so glad they will be helping with Dennis. After all he deserves the best!
I agree with the others, does your comment about future plans mean you will be adding to your family? Soon? I think a little one would be a good addition. A little girl who loves to snuggle would be wonderful. I think Dennis would be a great big brother. he might not like loose being the baby of the family, but he would get use to it after a while. LOL!!
Keep us updated on how Dennis is doing, and also about the plans for your family. LOL!!
Love,
Sheila
wow...it feels so good to be understood!!! he has had so many appts in his young life...nice to have positive experiences! :)
That's great news on all fronts! It's so frustrating to have to wait for medical stuff. I'm glad Dennis will be getting tubes that should help him hear, very important at his age.
Announcing potential future plans here usually means "they're already in the works, just haven't nailed down the exact timing yet." My money is on a move to the Ukraine. Four year plugs versus frequent maintenance in growing ears. Makes sense to me.
Future plans are always exciting :) Blessings Abound!
Hmmmm...future plans, huh?!? love the way you threw that in here, Christine! :) I'm so glad Dennis will be able to get new tubes and help his hearing, and how great is that dr's office to remind you about the catheter size too! can't wait to hear the new news!
When I first read this yesterday and saw, "potential future plans" I thought, could she mean...? naw... then saw your facebook post today...hmm, maybe. Very interesting!
Hi! Good luck with your future plans what ever they maybe. Ear tubes that last longer than a year are great.Pat
