Weeds

The weather has been awesome here in Southern California. Just awesome. It was calling out for us to come outside and work on the yard. I can't explain Spring Fever any better!

The whole family came out to work-- mostly weeding. I enjoyed talking with my girls so much-- what beautiful young ladies they are growing up into. We hope to plant a garden this year, a few trees, and finish landscaping our yard with flowers and ground cover. Seems pretty ambitious since pulling weeds tired us out!

I was amazed when one of my daughters compared pulling weeds to our constant battle with sin. We can pull all the weeds in the yard and no matter how good of a job we think we do, they still come back. Just like when we work hard on our sinful nature-- no matter what we do, we are still going to sin. And God knows that. And that is why he gives us grace-- and the constant reminder of weeds. Who knew we had so much in common with weeds?

Today Jonny learned how to mow the lawn. He was so proud of himself! "Look guys! I am only seven and I can mow the lawn!"

After we filled up our green can with weeds, we took a trip down to the local nursery. I could have spent hours there picking out trees, shrubs, and flowers.
But instead, I came home with weed killer to finish off the weeds that we left behind.
In a few weeks once the weeds are gone, we are going to start planting away! We can't wait!

I am really looking forward to the day when we can get out in the yard and do just that! We had such fun working in the yard with Aidan last year. . .Children love to do this kind of work even though it's hard because it does provide some instant gratification! Enjoy your yard and your kids!

how awesome that you all work together in whatever you do. Many hands makes the job quicker and the work doesn't just fall on one person's shoulders! by the way. . .you have a beautiful yard!

Hi! I loved to plant in my yard . I use a homeschool agriculture course from Christian Light Education. My children learn a lot about soil, plants, and planting techiques. Somethings we plant and spend hours and hours trying to get certian plants to grow but the plants do not take due to our clay soil and did not grow at all- strawberries and blueberries we can never get to take. Penn State University will do soil testing and help with telling what are good plants to grow in ones soil.Happy spring growing season, Pat

I'd love to borrow some of your kids for some yard work. :) Too bad Israel is a tad too far away for a weekend of weeding and ice cream!

Jonny should not be mowing barefoot

I am always amazed at how people feel a need to find something negative to say ALL THE TIME!

Looks like a fun and productive time.

Peace

I LOVE working on projects in my yard!! I try to add a new flower bed every year and it is always so much fun to see it come together. Love the time with your kids pulling weeds together.

Anon is right but I wonder why he/she felt he/she had to be anon. My kids wear either work boots or some sort of closed toed shoe to mow. I'm sure you normally do that and this was probably a spur of the moment "look at me mom" thing.
