Afterwards, they labeled all the states on a map and colored it in.
For P.E. we all went on a walk. The kids wanted to climb a big hill. All was fine until it was time for them to come down. As Julia walked down her speed picked up and soon she was running down the hill. Near the bottom she took a big tumble. Thankfully she braced herself and forced her hip and bottom to take most of the hit instead of her face. Three days later, she is recovering nicely. She even gave me permission to blog about her fall.
Andrew and Paul are enjoying baseball. All the boys are actually. John practices with them regularly-- and Adam joins in to. What boys would not eat that up?
Poor Paul took a hard ball to his forehead the other day. Thump! It traumatized him enough to where John and Adam had to work with him to get him comfortable with catching popflys again.
For dessert one night, we made Strawberry Shortcake. It was scrumdiddlyumptious which by the way is not a word only I thought up. Julia showed me today that Willy Wonka uses the same word on the packages of some of his candy.
Speaking of candy-- John started a new tradition. Unbeknownst to him, I bought goodies for the kids for Valentine's day which I planned on handing out to all of them tomorrow. But while we were making homemade valentines yesterday he came in and gave all of his girls special Valentine goodie bags. He did this two days early because he has to work on Valentine's day. "Will you be my valentine girls?" John asked us all. It was incredibly sweet. The girls were so excited. The boys wanted to know where their valentines were and John simply said that only girls are his valentines. Going with that idea, I put together my little goodie bags and passed them out shortly thereafter to all by boy valentines. Of course, that made them happy too-- and the best part is that I think a new tradition was started this year. Thanks sweetheart!

Hi! I think the Valentine Day's presents were really nice. It is nice to have traditions for the Holidays that your children can remember, When your children are older they may want to carry on the same Holiday traditions they had when younger. Many wonderful tradtions to be continued ,Pat
Ice and snow here. Neither baseball nor strawberries!
Poor Julia! I have done that too...I started running down a sledding hill when I was younger (to meet some friends who were walking up), and I ran right past them because I couldn't stop. Haha!
The strawberry shortcake looks yummy! We only eat that in the summer around here, but boy am I anxious!
Sweet of John to do that for his girls for Valentine's day.
That is adorable! I have a friend whose husband took out his wife one night and then his three daughters the next day. I love that idea, too.
For Valentines day we all cut out our own hearts and write three things we love about each person in the family. Then we put them in a big box and dish them out on Valentines day. Each person reads, out loud, what everyone wrote about them. It is a sweet time and I love to hear what others say.
Now I only have 4 children, so if you do it, you may need to cut it down to ONE nice thing about each person :) Love the goody bag idea. I may have to steal that one! Thanks! I read a book once that talked about how important it is that dad's make their daughters feel loved or they will look for that love elsewhere at too young an age. Way to go John!
Blessings,
Sue
Love the Valentine ideas from the parents to opposite sex kids!!! Might have to steal that one, but that wouldn't be the first thing I have borrowed from ya!!! Have a Happy Valentines Day!!!
Fun new Valentine's tradition!
I empathize with Julia, having had the same trouble with my steps getting bigger and bigger, turning into running, then rolling/sliding down a mountain side near Tehachapi. This happened when we vacationed in California when I was young.
Good new Valentine's tradition.
That is a GREAT idea....love it!
We have that same tradition! Daddy buys the girls' valentines and I do the boys'. So much fun! This year I got off easy because we only have 1 boy at home and 5 girls. I got my guy a heart shaped waffle maker, sounds strange for a 13 yr old boy but he loves waffles and likes to cook. I'm raising a great future husband:)
What a sweet tradition that would be.
My dad used to bring us each a rose on Valentine's Day (we were all girls) and a dozen for my mom. :) It's a very good tradition!
I have been away too long, the kids look great and growing up so fast.
That is an adorable idea! I always get things for my kids too - it's a great excuse to celebrate love!
