Physical touch is very important-- after all, it is one of the five love languages. I know this and yet I fall into the routine of giving quick little hugs like little pecks because I take for granted that there will be a next one. God has laid it upon my heart that this is something I should work on. I am not only short changing my kids, but I am short changing myself. Since this is something that has happened gradually without even me noticing for a long time, I feel like I have to be deliberate in working on it.
So I came up with the "100 Hugs Challenge." I am going to try and give all of my kids at least 100 hugs a day-- and I enlisted their help. It made for a great devotional on being more loving and how we can all practice more of it throughout the day.
As a way to incorporate school (and squeeze in another writing assignment before state testing) into our devotional I encouraged the kids to write a poem titled, "100 Hugs." Since Annalyn absolutely loves to write-- especially poetry I asked her if I could share her poem. She said yes.
100 Hugs a Day
by Annalyn Reed
I want a hug,
I want another.
Let's hug ourselves
Let's hug each other.
I'll give them all
I'll give them well.
I'm the best hugger,
Can't you tell?
You'll never miss one
You'll get them all.
I'll never forget
I'll never stall.
You'll like my hugs
I know you'll say,
"Your hugs are the best!"
100 hugs a day.

What a great poem! Yes, I think hugs are important too!
LOVE this idea!!!! We totally believe in the healing power & love in a hug. We have lots of children that come to camp that have never been hugged :( breaks my heart!
I believe in hugging and loving on our children for that special bond but 100 hugs a day??? That is over doing it I think!!! 2 or 3 a day seem more like it .
Love, love, love the poem! I am a very huggy person with my kids, but reading this makes me realize how caught up in my day I can get. I'm gonna hug them more!
What an awesome poem! I think Annalyn has a talent for poetry. :)
That's 100 divided 15 ways right?

Cute poem..
My kids when they were little used to sing a song at school called..Four Hugs A Day..
it's cute..several of my kids sang it at their Mother's day presentation.
I am a very huggy mommy...we just all finished watching a movie me and 5 little ones all snuggled up ...
xx
Awesome poem, Annalyn! You are quite talented!
And I've often thought before, the one sense I could not bear to give up is the sense of touch! It, more than anything, makes me feel connected to things. Hugs and touches are very important indeed!

Great poem, Annalyn! Sounds like a great challenge!
I love this! And Annalyn did a wonderful job on her poem:)
I have to say that I spend a lot of time going over the importance of looking people in the eye when we talk to them, smiling AT people, and how to hug someone "properly". If you don't want to hug someone, that's okay -don't. But to not give someone a half hug that seems as if you'd rather do anything but hug them, it's not okay at our house. My 4 yr old now gets you in a strangle hold and counts loudly to 10 and then says "Okay, your hug is done now." We're working on that;p
Great poem :)
By "I am going to try and give all of my kids at least 100 hugs a day" do you mean giving 1500 hugs? Or divide the 100 between the 15 of them? Either case, even 6.666 hugs a day can feel routine if they become just part of the project, so be careful about that, and hug away! :)
That was a really awesome poem Annalyn! Wow!
Excellent challenge! I am going to up the hugging 'round this place TODAY!
Annalyn is really a talented poet!
Go, Annalyn! Wonderful job!!
