Just In Case You Were Wondering...

We made it here okay. It is nearly midnight and I can't sleep-- and so I will blog a short update.

I picked up the U-Haul trucks on Tuesday and we had one of them fully loaded by that night. The next morning we loaded the other one plus our three vehicles and left our old home by 11:30 late morning. But not before I clogged our new vacuum with a wad of paper towels as I was trying to clean the bottom of the fridge. I sat down on the tile floor with my Mom and two daughters and almost had a meltdown. Thankfully my Mom got out the screw driver and went to work taking it apart. As we prepared to take off, John couldn't find the truck keys, the kids could not find the cats, and I calculated that we have at least one more truck load of stuff to get on the next trip. But aren't all moves bound to have some unforgettable bumps in the road?

Anyway, we caravaned down, stopped in Bakersfield for lunch and arrived at our new home around four o'clock. I know God was guiding us because we managed to miss all traffic related things for smooth sailing the whole trip. We all worked ourselves to death unloading the first 26 foot truck before calling it a night. This morning we unloaded the second truck and spent the rest of the day unpacking and putting together furniture.

I must say that our new home feels huge! We still get lost upstairs-- no joke-- but for our family the home could not be more perfect! The kitchen has tons of storage, my van will fit in the garage, there are way less flies than were we used to live, and the area is very quiet at night with no hint of traffic noise. We absolutely love it so far! Well... maybe except for living out in what feels like the middle of nowhere where it takes at least half an hour to run and get a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk, but I will get used to that.

I think it is safe to say that we are officially moved in! Thanks Mom, Mom, Dad, and Pastor Sam for helping make this move possible! We couldn't have done it without you!

I cannot even imagine a move of your size! We had one 26 foot truck, but only two adults, two dogs, and one cat! I'm glad everything went smoothly and few meltdowns/traffic/issues. I can't wait to hear more about your "new life!"

oh, hi! I was wondering about how the big move was going. I'm glad the worst part is gone! Are you soo isolated? That sound so weird to me! Here in half an hour you reach Switzerland! We are so used to go everywhere by foot/bike, we use the car only if we have to move heavy stuff! I wish you all the best for your new start! Hugs to you and to the whole team!

So great to hear that you all arrived safely and are settling in. Just a question, How did you decide who would be in what room and sharing with which sibling? Did you perviously have all that arranged or choose when you arrived?
Can't wait to hear how the kids are adjusting and what they think of their new school. When do they start?

Christine, I wish you every happiness in your new home. Please keep careful watch of your kitties for a good while in your new location. One of mine tried to hike back to our old house. I know the children would be heartbroken to have that happen.
Hugs,
JEB

On moving day you forgot how two sets of keys got locked in my car trunk and I had to call a locksmith out. Looking back I giggle over the entire moving day. Fond memories we'll have.
Love, Mom

So glad it went well!
This last summer my mom and I drove from where we live near Seattle to Las Vegas and then Phoenix and drove home through California. Anyways, I know the area that you moved to (the county anyways) and I remember it not being very inhabited. Are you near a larger city or are you truly in the middle of nowhere? I've always lived in a suburb about 20 minutes north of Seattle so I don't know how I would do living 30 minutes from a store. It sounds so nice because of the peace and quiet but I would miss all the convenience...

We've always lived out in the Country and have always had a 25+ minute drive to town. It's so nice & quiet, even if you are just little farther from the main town and not just way out in the country (like us, LOL). Glad all has gone well with the move :)! Moving can be so difficult & stressful....we moved 1400 miles. THAT was nuts!
