The house is officially ours! Oh my! I can hardly believe it. I am so excited-- but wow there are so many things to do. I love that someone suggested writing a list-- it feels good to check something off it.
Ain't that the truth. So here is my list. If they are only half crossed out, that means I'm not done with the task.
Sign loan docs
Reorder Alex's 2 prescriptions
Straighten out catheter prescription with new insurance-- Why does this have to be such a pain? We have the prescription, we have the insurance-- so what is the problem?
Pick out paint colors
Choose contractor(s)
Set up Utilities
Look into new home/car insurance
Look into homeschooling charter schools-- How do even begin to choose curriculum if you were to homeschool let's say a first grader?
Order A.C.E. curriculum to fill in the gaps
Sort through 6 kitchen junk drawers-- so proud of myself
Fill out school registration forms-- this one is scary.
Figure out whether or not busses run for new school district
Gather transcripts, and IEPS
Narrow down cellphone/plan-- don't think it will be Verizon (not very nice on phone) or Virgin Mobile (lack of coverage) Looking into T-Mobile family plan with my Aunt, Sister, and Mom. Can't decide on a phone at this moment.
Research washers and dryers-- I think/hope I narrowed it down to a Kenmore front loader, LG front loader, Maytag Bravo, or Whirlpool Cabrio-- Can't stack anything with cupboards above... besides I can't see paying for two sets at this time anyway. Is there such a think as an affordable, large capacity top loader that doesn't have bad reviews?
Pack 3 boxes a day
Make Sweet Iced Tea (ever since I tried McDonalds $1 sweet tea--I'm hooked!)
Organize desk
Remind John of all the things that he has to do as a huge favor to me
33 inspiring thoughts:
Phew... That's alot
Even for me and I can take on a bunch!!!! :D :D :D
Hope all works out :) and be easier for everyone
Good luck !
Your list looks FANTASTIC!!! I love lists and it is exciting to see someone else having things crossed off of their list:-)
Love your list.....Love lists in general - especially when they are almost done!!!
Remember to include bullying as an issue in William's IEP. I work in the special education department at our school. We follow kids around to make sure they are not bullied.
Check out this homeschooling curriculum: http://www.sonlight.com/
Also Verizon doesn't have the coolest phones but they hands down have the best service. TMoblie gives free "cool" phones but not the best service. I have been all over the southwest with Verizon and they do a pretty dang good job.
Way to cross it off! And congrats on the new house. I'm sure it will feel like home in no time!
Good idea not to go with Virgin Mobile: I don't like their (non-existent) customer service at all.
Get a cell phone with a full alphabet keyboard and you will never regret it.
I think our large capacity Whirlpool top loader washer sucks. I regret we bought it 2 years ago. Really follow consumer reviews.
You're truly a whiz to remember this all! And you are so bold to gather all those transcripts IEP etc.
Congratulations! :) Good luck on the move and settling into your new home!
I'm tired just from reading your list! LOL
You are doing GREAT!!! Woop-Woop!~
I had a Maytag front loader for years, one of the first. Never liked it so decided to get large top loader when Maytag went out. I got he Whirlpool Cabrio and can't stand it. I love how it looks but our clothes do not get as clean. I read reviews stating that the lack of an actual agitator does not always gets clothes clean and boy were they right. Sometimes I can put a wadded kitchen dishrag in there and it will come out the same way as it went in. It is gross! Don't buy it, my biggest disappointment and $1000 GONE!!! I want a new washer!!
I am sure you are on Facebook, Christine. Put the word out to your friends on FB that you are looking for different homeschool curriculum programs. Chances are, you have FB friends who homeschool and you don't even know they do it.
Hi Christine,
I am the one who suggested the list. Glad it is working for you. The times I have moved I don't know how I would have managed with out one. Here's a couple you might not have thought of.....
1. change your mailing address
2. cancel your paper if you get one.
3. Have someone cut the grass and check on the house regularly - something to do with insurance.
4. leave a couple of lamps with timers to come on and go off so the house isn't in darkness all night.
4 Turn off the valves at the back of the toilets when you leave. Awful mess if something happens - as it did to me one day when I was at work - as you will have water everywhere.
5. Cancel the phone.
I can't think of anything else just at present, but if I do I will let you know. Hopefully your house will be sold in no time and you won't have to worry about water from the toilets!
Keep on pluggin'. You'll get there and look back at this in a year and will have forgotten all the stress. Honestly - believe me - I have been there.
Marilyn from Canada :-)
Check out Christian Liberty Press or Abeka for homeschooling. You can do schooling through them or just order their books. They will also send you a free catalog.

I recommend Christian Light Publications for elementary math and from what I understand their first grade Learning to Read series is good too.
I'm exhausted just reading your list! I hope the move goes smoothly and your new house feels like home very soon.
Blessings,
Kathie
I like lists too :)
I recommend My Father's World (www.mfwbooks.com) as a curriculum.
Congratulations on the house. Can't wait to see pics when you get moved in.
God's Blessings
Congrats on the new home!!!
~Laura :)
Yay for you!
(I have been reading for a while, just never commenting.)
If you are just going to use your phone for calling, make sure that you get something that is not fancy, doesn't have all the features but looks cheap with a 2-year-contract. And as much as I love my Sony Ericssons, they do die faster than other mobiles in my experience, so you might wanna go with something cheap and sturdy. :)
I have had just one set of washer/dryers with our 20 kids plus 2 adults and they are great. I use a GE profile top loading washer. We mostly use only cold water and the quick cycle too. Our clothes ( of which there are lots daily with this many people)are clean and done. I was looking over Labor Day wknd to buy another set at Lowes because they were on sale but my older daughter reminded me how well the w/d does and we are usually finished with the days laundry by mid day. So I did not buy them because she is right. Congratulations on your new home.. hope the move goes smoothly for you.
I homeschool my daughter using homelife academy. Very simple to use. I also chose the Abeka Curriculum and she is doing great. She is also adopted from the Ukraine in December 2006. Any questions, feel free to contact me. God bless!melissarmay2000@yahoo.com
Congratulations! And yay for getting stuff crossed off your list!
That is so awesome! Congrats!
Holy Moly you did it all! I am super impressed and keep up the good work. I know you have tons of blog readers that are sending their blog love to you daily!
Allie
Wow, you're doing so well with the list! I'm very impressed.
So funny about the sweet tea. When I went to California with my dad for the first time, he told me on the plane, "Now remember, Americans DON'T sweeten their iced tea, so be careful." Lol. In Canada, we always have sweet iced tea . . . I couldn't imagine it any other way!
Hi Christine, I know some parents who use and love sky mountain charter. It's based in CA, they give you all the supplies, and they have a teacher who comes by periodically (weekly or monthly) to go over plans or do assessments or whatever. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.skymountaincs.org/
I also wanted to let you know if you are planning any trips down south before moving day, or even when you leave your area for good, you and your family are more than welcome to make a pitstop at my house and we would love to have you for dinner! Let me know. :)
Katie
Love your list. I have a Whirlpool Cabrio and love it. It will hold my king size comforter, which is why we got it. I used it on cold and it does great. Clothes are almost dry from the washer, so drying time is great. The only adjustment I had is (I believe this is with all new washers) you can't add the soap to the water. I used to fill tub half up and put my soap in then add clothes. Clothes still look great thought.
Oh and being from the south Sweet Tea is a staple here have to have it.
PS Love your blog and glad you are sticking around.
It's all so exciting!!! Lists are awesome for feeling successful and great to keep around to reference when life feels overwhelming...it's nice to look at and realize that a lot has already been accomplished. As for homeschooling, I could write you a lengthy e-mail but not post it here. It's fun, exhausting, thrilling, frustrating, amazing, and scary! To start with, start at the end: what's your goal for your child/children? Then work backwards to determine how best for you/him/her to reach it.
I should have added my Cabrio has an agitator in it.
I have a GE profile too (top loader). I LOVE it.
The list looks great and I know it feels good to be able to cross things off.
When researching homeschooling look for a local homeschool support group. You should be able to search homeschool in xxx area and find something then connect with them. The other homeschooling parents will have so many ideas to help you and will often let you look at what they are using. It really helps to get a feel for how different curriculums work.
Cell Phones - we have T-mobile Even More Plus Family Plan for my husband and I. We have been with them for years. Most of the time it has been really good. Customer service has been good, coverage has been good in our area. The only problem we have is that coverage is not really good where my son goes to college so he has chosen a different carrier.
God bless you through this move and the adjustment time. :)
Hi Christine-
I homeschooled my daughter, now 19 in 3rd and 4th grade and used Sonlight. However, my 12 year old is staying home this year after being beat up badly at school last year. I am using Switched on Schoolhouse-by Alpha Omega Publishers which I think would be great for your large family.
The computer grades almost all assignments and you can supplement if needed. My son is doing 2 years of Math at the same time.
So far, so good.
Sorry I am so behind but CONGRATS on the new house!!!
