It's A Mixed Bag

As parents John and I are always looking at ways we can better provide for our children.

Recently that meant me purchasing Omega-3 gummy vitamins. The packaging promised there would be no fishy taste but they more than made up for it with a fishy smell.

Blach!

However, I was not about to waste $5.00 so I insisted my kids try them. That was one full day worth of entertainment in the Reed home. Most of the kids couldn't stand the smell let alone the taste and yet a few thought they are absolutely, "Coos-na!" Watching them watch each other as the ones who couldn't stand them watched the ones who loved them devour two instantly had me on the floor laughing.

You should've been there.

And yes I know-- bad me. Getting a good laugh at my children's expense is horrible. But I can live with that. :)

  1. Hahahaha that must have been hilarious!

Maybe you could try flax seed oil instead? It also has omega-3's. I've never tried it, but I heard it's better than fish oil. I think you can add it to salad dressings, etc. so that the whole issue of getting them to take it doesn't come up :-) Just serve it along with dinner!

  2. No way! That's not bad. Why should Mom's get all the heartache and stress (at the expense of or at the hand of her children) and not get the benefit of a good hearty laugh (either at the expense of or at the hand of) her children? I thought it was hysterical! Almost worth going out to get some to have my kids taste test 'em too! LOL

  3. My kids take Life Brand Omega 2 Soft Chews. Orange Flavoured. Probably not available in the U.S. but they are the only kind I've found that do not taste fishy at all. My kids love them and ask every day for their Omega 3.

Flax seeds are a good idea too. I love to put them on salad.

  5. Try the Nature's Sunshine fish oil gummy chews. My 5 year old ADORES them, I have to restrain myself from gobbling them--they are that good!!!

  6. I have the same problem with my kids. I share my women's vitamins with my older girls now ( they are not chewable). My other ( younger) kids take the chewable kids vitamins that have that taste. I buy the vitamins only with iron ( 18 mgs) and it is the iron in the vitamins that my kids don't like the taste to we figured out. They would love if I bought gummie vitamins but none of them have the 18 mg or iron :( Do yours ?

  7. GMC omega 3 chews are good. They taste like a mild orange starburst and the same texture. My picky eater (who puts your picky eater to shame :) ) even eats them.

  8. So funny -Love a hearty laugh!!

GNC has Coromega Omega 3 Squeeze packs. They are orange flavor and taste like an orange smoothie packet. We store the packets in fridge and the kids love them!!

  9. Yuck! I haven't tried the Omega-3 vitamins. I get milk with DHA and Omega-3. I used to get Horizon brand, but recently saw that Target's Archer Farms brand also has a line with the DHA and Omega-3. It is more expensive than plain milk so may be an big expense given the amount of milk your kids probably drink.

  10. That's the same brand we get, I think...looks like it from the side of the package, at least. Ours are sour. Are your's? My daughter LOVES the sour ones! I have to keep her from eating more than her share each day.

Flax seed IS good, though. If you buy the milled and just add it in to things you cook...or sprinkled on toast or oatmeal or whatever...they can't taste it.

  11. I just give my kids straight up fruit flavored codliver oil. I gag at the smell, they think it's the best stuff in the world! I asked Dorian once what it tasted like (smells like fish mixed with juice) and he said, "Potatoes!" :S

  13. My poor children get strawberry flavored 'Children's DHA' by Nordic Naturals. They absolutely love it, but I think it tastes awful!!! They claim it tastes just like bubblegum....and anything that tastes like bubblegum is deemed delicious!
