Hell Week

Literally, that is what it is called. Caleb is in water polo, and this week he has to be at the high school by 5:45 in the morning. And this doesn't replace his three hour practice after school. Sounds a bit much for water polo, doesn't it? Yeah, but they do it to see who is dedicated and who wants to make the varsity team. One morning miss-- and you don't get on the varsity team. Not that Caleb will automatically make it anyway (this is his first time playing)-- but he is making a huge effort to go every morning.

And John and I are tag team helping. Last night I made up breakfast burritos for Caleb to eat after practice and John drives him and then goes to work. Caleb seems to be enjoying himself. Everyone knows he may not be around in a month or two-- but they still want him to play.

But I can already tell by how early he went to bed that this is going to be a rough week for him.

I've had a few kids go thru high school athetics (football, track) and I find it a bit much. Most of the teams (I have friends who had kids in basketball, volleyball and soccer at our hs as well) want to be your family and your dedication to your family is in question at every turn. It's a bit overwhelming and I'm not encouraging my younger kids to go this route.

I hope you all make it thru water polo hell week!

My ex used to drive Tami to the ice rink for figure skating several mornings a week (6:00). This was during the entire school year.

Hopefully where you'll move, water polo will be part of the high school. Being Southern CA, I'd imagine it's a standard school sport.

He'll sleep well this week for sure.

Zhenya's FIFTH grade football is EVERY NIGHT for two hours! (During the dinner hour, too....I'm not coping well.) And when Aidan was in hockey, there wasn't enough ice time, so the freshmen had practice from midnight until 2 in the morning! Since we didn't live in the district, I either spent those hours at work, or Craig slept in the car in the parking lot! Oh, what we do for sports!

Yep, my son is eduring his 2nd week of "hell week"...and school hasn't even started yet (we start on Monday)!! And because he got his wisdom teeth out on Thursday & missed 2 days last week, he'll be doing TRIPLE days this week...that means 6 hrs/day in the water!!!

You can count on water polo being a big sport down south; I hope Caleb enjoys it. It gets a little (ok, a lot) rough, but kids playing seem to be pretty good kids. I'm bummed you're moving though & our boys won't have the opportunity play at a tourney... we live in the northern part of the valley, not too far from Children's.

That's got to be hard not just for Caleb. Some mornings I have to wake up at 4:30 just wake my mom up so I can go to rifle practice for ROTC. But thank goodness, I'm getting my license

soon, I hope everything would get easier. I'm praying for you guys.

Yikes!!! Good for Caleb for wanting to show his dedication, though:-) I just got caught up today with your blog and saw that you are moving and John is starting a new job and will be away during the week. So much going on for your family right now. God bless you Christine, as you head into a new chapter. I am thinking maybe the new house and move will be another bonding experience for Anastasia and Paul!
