Adjusting

It has been nice having John home. Quite honestly I thought we might be bickering by the third day home together, but the time has flown by and now tomorrow is our last day before he heads off to his new job. I try not to think about it too much... I know it will take some adjusting too, but I know that we will be alright.

Besides, it shouldn't be for too long.

The kids are settling into school just fine... even Alex is doing much better. I guess having him stand in the corner one day last week as a consequence for his disruptive, not listening behavior in school worked after all. He comes home so much happier now, shouting how awesome his day was! The school has a full time aide for him and we are quickly realizing that he will most likely require the help of a resource specialist too. I have put in a request to meet with his IEP team to discuss these changes. Anastasia and Paul are absorbing so much English right now, although they still talk to each other in Russian. John and I wonder if they will keep their language. It would be awesome if they could. Dennis started preschool today and loved it! He is looking forward to going again tomorrow!

Some other quick updates about our family

~~Paul can ride his new bike!
~~Anastasia has learned 10 colors and can read them too!
~~Caleb made the JV water polo team!
~~We celebrate another birthday this weekend.
~~Dennis may have news of an upcoming surgery.
~~Our whole family plus Grandma and Grandpa went floating down the Kings River this past Saturday.

just a thought/idea:

perhaps you could encourage Paul & Anastasia to teach the ENTIRE family little bits of Russian here & there, ESPECIALLY given that Annalyn, Sveta, Anna, and Rachel all have that as their native language!

that would allow them to be the ones teaching their siblings, while encouraging them to keep their Russian sharp & showing them that you DO embrace their culture and DON'T want them to forget it!

just my personal thought. :-)

Horray for Alex! I am always amazed at how fast kids pick up language.
We have tried NOT to lose it, but we have faced it..... it is lost.
Doing Rosetta Stone to get it back. :)

Congrats to Caleb making the water polo team!

And congrats to John starting his new job. I pray you are all together SOON!

I pray they wont forget their language. What a blessing it would be for them to be bilingual. I like the idea posted above about them teaching the other kids...

Lots and lots going on in the
Reed house!! I do pray that your time away from John will be short and that you will all be able to move shortly. Have you had many showings on your house? Is everyone excited to move?

Christine, I've been following your blog since early this year. I'm in an International Studies class in college and we have to do a term paper on a specific ethnic group and I immediately thought of your blog and adoptions. Is there a specific ethnic group in Ukraine/Russia/that general region that you've dealt with or know about? Our term paper has to deal with a specific Ethnic group or I would do it on Ukrainian orphans in general.

I know you're really busy, but if you get a chance, could you e-mail me? My email is kristynwins @ aol . com
(without the spaces)

Thank you!

I grew up in San Bernadino (Colton- yuck), before my family moved to the Central Coast! My husband and I were just down in Riverside the last two days for work (visiting childen in foster homes) and visited family. When we drove through Rancho Cucamonga I thought that is one town that would be nice to live in!
