Waking Up to a Blessing!

Last night was a rough one. Dennis kept waking up which in turn woke up Alex and Andrew-- which woke me up. Instead of trying to console Dennis back to sleep in our bed, I laid down with him and Alex in their bed. I didn't even hear John leave for work. I woke up to two bouncing happy as can be boys-- this is how our morning started.

Adam at one point came and told me that our front yard was covered with eggs. I guess he saw it from his upstairs bedroom window. I didn't put them there and I know John didn't put them there so I thought the kids were playing egg hunt again. Without looking, I told Adam it was not a big deal and he left it at that.

Then an hour later Rachel noticed the eggs too. I figured I had better take a look--- and look what we found! Surprise Easter baskets sat our front porch and our grass was covered in hundreds of eggs!

"Kids get on your shoes and grab your baskets!"

Their squeals of delight were mixed with questions of who could have possibly done this. We have absolutely no clue!

There were so many eggs that Caleb brought out an ice chest to put more of the eggs in.

The kids noticed that the eggs filled with jelly beans had made a huge, sticky mess because it rained all night and so we actually had to throw away some of the eggs-- but the kids didn't mind.

If Dennis was allowed to, he would have picked up an egg, opened it up, ate the candy in it, and moved on to the next one and so forth. After the second egg I showed him that he had many eggs to pick up that he could open up later.

As we picked up eggs, my mind kept running through the list of people I thought could have done this. As I thought of calling each of them, I realized that if they had wanted us to know they would have left a card. Don't you think? And so I decided to just be thankful and appreciate the wonderful blessing that someone bestowed upon my children.

Rachel was thinking the same thing I was.

What a wonderful thing to do to some family next year! It only feels natural to pass on this wonderful, happy blessing to someone else.

Adam finally brought out an empty planter bucket which I emptied into a bag so that we could bring the eggs into the house.

All the kids thoroughly enjoyed going through everything.

We couldn't believe the assortment of goodies-- every kind of candy you can imagine, stickers, balloons, soap, note pads, pencils, coloring books, rings, glow in the dark necklaces, stuffed animals, windmills, card games, trivia games, candy necklaces, ring pops, tattoos, and so on.

Jonny was happy to share this candy duck! Sveta bit its tail off---I was the one who bit its head off.

William, Rachel, and Anna had fun playing card games.

Thank you to whoever made this ordinary Monday a Monday my kids will not soon forget!

sounds like the Easter bunny tripped and lost some eggs in front of your house. That happens every year at my house too (and has for the past 14 years) When we finally figured out who had done it, we picked up on the tradition and sprinkle eggs in our neighbors lawns early in the morning. I hope whoever it was sees the joy on your childrens' faces. Happy Easter!

That is the neatest idea!!

We have some friends who do something like that on the Feast of St. Nicholas in December. They get up very, very early and drop a bag of goodies at someone's door.

I knew they did it, but was still just overwhelmed and so thrilled the morning that I opened the door to get the paper and found the sack for US. What a thrill!!

Such a wonderful idea! And I love the fact that you're not obsessing about who did it. I have often given surprises to people (not this one, unfortunately), and I never want to let on that it's me - it's better just being a surprise.

I'm not sure which would be more fun (as an adult) to be the surprise giver, or to have my children surprised by such a delightful, thoughtful treat! This just has me smiling! :-) I hope I will be able to do this (with our kids) for someone one day!
