Now Isn't That a Clever Analogy?

A woman was asked by a co-worker,

"What is it like to be a Christian?"

The co-worker replied,

"It is like being a pumpkin.
God picks you from the patch,
brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.

Then he cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.

He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.,
and then He carves you a new smiling face
and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

Wow,jack-o-lanterns always seem a bit eerie to me, but that puts a new and better light on them.

I suppose thats the same for every religion! :o) Good one, though I'm not sure I like the seeds of doubt etc cause pumpkin seeds are lovely! Lol! Love the smiley face and light inside!

A smiling face and no brains? This does not sound like a good thing to me.

Very cool! Dee - it was the "yucky stuff" that was removed! Not the brains!

So being a Christian is basically same as being any good person- religious or not. I agree. Of course, this applies only for Christians who really ARE behaving like ones as opposed to majority who just think they are.

I like it, but what about Christians who struggle with doubt or fear, or something that they "shouldn't" be struggling with? It's not always an easy road to walk.

I really like the sentiment, and am indeed a Christian myself, but I'll be honest, I can't get myself past the imagery of God cutting off the top of my head and scooping my guts out!

It's an interesting analogy. However, I know of no individual that has NOT struggled with doubt or hate. No matter how religious.

While the emotions listed are often viewed as "bad" they are also what make us human.

Doubt can, many times, lead to good. For instance, you have a doubt about doing something--which leads you to re-think you decision--which leads to a better decision.

Hate, while most times seen as a negative emotion, can also lead to a path of good.
We "hate" to see children orphaned....so we adopt.

Pulling out even "negative" emotions would lead to a very VERY empty person....One who has to *have* as smile carved upon their faces....instead of creating that smile themselves.

You know, at first I felt the need to reply specifically to a few comments, but I have decided not to. I am just excited that you guys read it. Blessings to you all. Good night.

This is NOT like other religions. If you look at every other religion they are working their way to God. Yet Christ came to us to guide us to the Father. He died for us while we were still ungrateful and tarnished people! You can never earn your way to God. You will fall flat on your face. Thank you Christ for coming to save us.
