Alex's Journey to Walking

Alex is making so much progress. While he has not officially started Physical Therapy yet, he has been seen by two different therapists who showed me some things that I can do at home with him. We do therapy throughout the day--- and he has shown tremendous progress. In the beginning he could not balance whatsoever, let alone stand or walk-- he can do all three now. He used to cross over his legs when he used his walker but stretching exercises got him to keep his legs apart when he walks. I am helping him to bear weight on each leg separately so that he can carry his own weight. This process has not been easy for any of us-- but the progress he has made is evidence of how strong and amazing Alex is! Take a look at how Alex is getting around these days.

There has been a huge change in such a short time--- way to go Alex!

I caught myself smiling from ear to ear as I watched the video and tearing up when I saw his smile...he is a beautiful boy. What a blessing he is...you are doing a great job. The stretching is so important although sometimes it can be painful. After a warm bath is always good...I am sure your PT's gave you really good advice.

Oh my goodness he has come so far! I had tears in my eyes watching the video. Great job for encouraging him, you can see such joy on his face. I thought of a quote I once heard that I think is perfect for Alex,
"Give him roots and give him wings and he'll grow up to do great things."
Way to go Alex!!!

Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational video of how far Alex has come. It brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes. I am so glad that Alex has found such a wonderful family who loves and cares for him the way he deserves. It is so amazing how much his walking has improved since you started working with him. I can only imagine how well he will be doing when he finally gets PT and you are not carrying the full burden. You have done such a great job on your own and with PT I am sure there will be even greater achievements. You have also inspired me to take more time to work with my son who has sensory processing issues, speech delay and feeding issues. If you as a mom to 12 can find time to work with one of your children then I as a mom of only 4 certainly should be able to find the time to work with my son. Thank you for sharing. I will continue to keep your whole family in my prayers but especially Alex and Dennis. God Bless.
