And the evening was wonderful.
Rachel has matured so much over the past two and a half years-- and she carries herself with a huge sense of contentment which shines through. John and I were proud beyond words to be the parents of the beautiful birthday girl!
Happy 14th birthday Rachel!
After she blew out the candles we had a minor dilemma--- we couldn't figure out which freezer the ice-cream was hiding in.
After cake and ice-cream, Rachel opened up presents!
Not only did Rachel get many wonderful gifts from friends and family.....
but John and I thought that this birthday was an appropriate age to give Rachel this ring.
It is a purity ring. We wrote her a letter sharing with her our desires for her life, and how much God loves her. We explained how this ring was meant to be worn as a sign of purity and wholesomeness until it was replaced with a wedding ring from her husband. I asked her if she understood its significance and if she wanted to make this vow. She indeed wants to be set apart from the rest of the world and remain pure.
Praise God!

That is wonderful about her brothers coming.
So, is she 13?
Happy Birthday Rachel!
Peace
Beautiful. Your daughter. Your gift. the cake. the celebration. God's plans.
Happy birthday Rachel. That cake was really cool. Did you make it or have it done?
What a beautiful ring. I love that idea.
The cake is so pretty! And so is Rachel, wish her a happy birthday from all the way over here in the snowy Northeast! My daughters were making cupcakes today for a church girls gathering, they had white frosting, and they were calling them "pure as the driven snow" cupcakes. They also have the desire to keep themselves pure, it is a beautiful thing. And I love it that the boys have a bearded dragon. I tell my kids they can only have pets that have fur, so if they escape Mommy can actually pick them up...
Happy Birthday, Rachel! You are such a beautiful young lady. And congratulations on making a vow of purity...it saves SO much heartache down the road. Hope you had a wonderful day!
I love that you gave Rachel a purity ring! We had 3 daughters and they each got a purity ring (we called it a covenant ring). At each of their weddings, when the minister asked 'who gives this woman', my husband removed the purity ring, turned and told all the guests what it meant, and then gave the ring to the groom. It was a grand way to celebrate the keeping of the covenant!
Sounds like the perfect birthday!
About purity rings--do the boys get them too, or is it just a girl thing?
Happy Birthday to Rachel! Looks like she had an amazing birthday!
Peace.
Happy birthday!
I love the idea of the purity ring! What a wonderful way to discuss and teach such an important topic! Hope you don't mind if we borrow the idea, should the Good Lord ever grace us with a girl.
That's wonderful! What a perfect birthday, on so many fronts!! Rachel is maturing so nicely - she's such a beautiful girl. :o) You are blessed!!
Love the purity ring...and that Rachel has agreed to wear it!
Happy Birthday, Rachel! What a great treat to have her bio brothers come, and hooray for doing things God's way and staying pure until marriage!
Happy Birthday Rachel! I am so happy she has come so far with your tender love and care. The ring is a perfect gift at the right age. You have such a wonderful full family.
Happy Birthday to rachael!
My husband & I have talked about giving our daughters those rings for their 16th birthdays (Steph's is this year). I just love the idea :)
Love the purity ring idea. My 13 (almost 14) year old is in a small bible study group at our church that is led by a senior high school girl. She had the girls in the group do a neat "vow" bible series. My daughter took it very seriously and so I think the idea of this purity ring would be a wonderful one for her as well. Your daughter is such a beautiful girl. Happy Birthday Rachel!!
Yay for Rachel! Yay for all the great things that happen!
I have this thing about purity rings. I think the mass campaigns with their cheapo rings are ineffective and really, just make it all weird. However, the way you handled it is the way to go and I think it really helps cement the young ones' desire to remain pure and delightsome.
Happy Birthday Rachel! It seems to have been a really beautiful and special day in many ways!
- I'm blogging for Nadya; to help her find a family -
How sweet that you thought to give hr the ring AND especially that she wanted to wear it. It was thoughtful of you to invite her previous family. I'm glad she got the opportunity to see her bio. brother.
She certainly is a beautiful girl.
Rachel,
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Rachel, happy birthday to you! You are blessed to have such wonderful parents and they are blessed to have you as their daughter.
Happy Birthday Rachel. That is so awesome - all of it! Many more! Love the ring and what it represents!
♥ Love the cake! I love the idea of a purity ring! Fabulous and might steal the idea!
Are you giving your sons purity rings?
I'm wondering too if your sons are going to get purity rings... seems to me that with something held in such high regard, there shouldn't be a double standard. No offence meant, just curious.
