My Lovely Black Hand

I'm finished shaking my head. It has been one of those days-- at least the end of it was. And I am disappointed because the last few days have been rather awesome. I should know by now that for every ten good things there is bound to be one thing that happens to break the cycle. And today it broke.

The cycle that is.

After Caleb's ortho appointment, and a trip to Wal-Mart, we came home and did some major cleaning. Anna, Rachel, and I washed the kitchen blinds, wiped down the cabinets, and got down on our hands and knees and washed the kitchen floor. We shook the rugs, wiped out the microwaves, and scrubbed the baseboards. We drank soda and chewed gum too. We listened to music and enjoyed the sweet smelling aroma of a sugar cookie candle thanks to my Mom.

A few of the kids cleaned out the garage.

Caleb went shopping with Cousin Matt at a joke store.

The little ones slept.

All was good---- we were all about done cleaning --- time to rest and play.

Not twenty minutes later, one of the kids came running in to tell me that William had climbed the shelves in the garage with some neighbor kids and they had toppled down. This after me telling him the day before not to climb them. Of course he got in major trouble for disobeying me and having neighbor kids in our garage--- but that wasn't even the worst of it.

After telling all of the kids that the garage was off limits-- Annalyn was in there with two of her sisters showing them the mess. She pulled something aside to get an even better look and the shelves toppled even more. One landed on a can of black spray paint blasting black everywhere. The only way I could get it to stop was to grab the can. Now I have a nice black hand.

The mess is one thing--- I can get over it. It is what the mess represents. What the kids are in trouble for is for disobeying simple instructions.

Dennis has been waking up the last few nights crying and crying because of his ear. No fever-- just pain at night. Yes it nice to be able to cuddle him back to sleep---- but I would prefer if he went back to sleeping through the night. I finally wised up and gave him some Motrin as I put him down to bed. The ENT surgeon was trying to coordinate her surgery with the plastic surgeon when he does Dennis' next revision, but we decided to go ahead and get the tubes in Dennis' ears as soon as possible. Next week he will having an in and out surgery for this. Hopefully he will begin to hear better too.

I continue to enjoy Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). It is a very indepth and intense study of God's Word. Nothing more nothing less---- and I am loving it. We are doing the study of John and what I am learning about who Jesus is makes me love him all the more. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would look forward to discussing my answers in my women's group-- but I do. Nor did I think I would actually get the lengthy study done each week. But it is well worth it! I encourage you to look into getting involved in a bible study if you are not already in one. The icing on the cake is that my husband is doing the same exact study-- a blessing on our marriage to say the least.

I've been reading John lately. Great book. And bible studies are just the best! Great way to get to know your bible better, get to know other christians better, and be accountable to one another. Love them.

My little guy has had 2 lots of tubes in his ears (we call them grommets over here). They do such a great job. He never had fevers with ear infections either, but certainly had the pain. Hope Dennis is feeling better with them soon. You can get some great little wetsuit material headbands to go around their ears for swimming too - worth getting hold of, although it just occured to me you're heading into winter, not summer like us. Oops.

Poor wee lamb - earaches are dreadful. I can remember having them as a kid and stuff oozing out even. I hope the surgery is soon. The Motrin is a good pain reliever.
Sometime you just wonder what gets into kids brains eh? What a mess you had to sort out.......grrrrrr!! I hope tomorrow is better :-)

Where is the picture of your black hand?

Bible study... "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would look forward to discussing my answers in my women's group-- but I do." I am hungry for this kind of study, one where the group actually has a discussion. I am tired of watching DVD's and heading home immediately afterward. It leaves me feeling like the study was incomplete. Besides, I really need the fellowship.

oh poor little Dennis...ear tubes will make all the difference..instantly.

while you're there, ask them to fit his ears with ear plugs (Docs Proplugs). They probably will anyway..it's free, just ask for them. It takes a second to see what size he'll need, and that's it. Each time we go to the ENT, they are literally handing them out to the kids "protect those little ears" We're asked, do you want one, two, or three pairs? I always keep a pair in my purse, just in case.

Oh the black paint....yuck!!

Have a good day!

The mess....comes....at some time or another, but the reason like you said behind it - isn't fun.

Since we live soo far from our church community...Jason and I do a lot of studying together which is great. Look forward to that time every morning - even though I usually do not love early mornings :)

Hi Christine!
You must have been upset to not take a picture of your black hand!! hehe!
Some days go better than others - you already know that! It is a pain in the rear when the good behavior train comes to a screeching halt - believe me - I know!
Hey - could you share about the Little House on the Prairie Movies? I had not heard about those and am reallly interested!

Hugs!
Amy

I would love to see a pic of your hand too. I know you are disappointed in their behavior but I have a feeling that this may be a funny memory down the line.

I think it was the Duggar children who purposefully spray painted in their garage.

You have such a great family!

3 of my kids got tubes in their ears, and it made a huge difference. Glad this will happen soon for Dennis.

Yea for BSF. Our family did BSF for 16 years. I took the big kids to the preschool class when they were little. Then I took our preschoolers while my husband took the older kids at night. Then we moved, and I took all of the grade school and older kids to the night class. Then, my husband became a discussion leader of a new class. Then, he became the Substitute Teaching Leader, and took the kids with him.

Bible Study Fellowship is a WONDERFUL way to study and learn God's Word. My older kids have an amazing understanding of the Bible, because of their many years in BSF. Now, my older kids are going to the "adult classes" themselves.

Hope you are taking your children with you to BSF. It has an amazing children's program, for ages 2 years old through high school.

Blessings,

Laurel :)

I highly recommend the book Disease Proof your Child by Joel Fuhrman. He addresses ear troubles and ADHD, along with a host of other childhood issues and adult repercussions, as well.

I hope Dennis is more comfortable at night one way or the other!

It is a blessing no one got hurt when the boxes came down. We have been struggling with the our childeren disobeying us on the most simple things. We have had to bunckle down hard on the "Crew" until they get over what ever phase they are going thru and it seems to be working as they have been more obeident.
I am sure the tubes will make Dennis feel so much better, I will pray for things to go well and the pain be less until the surgery date.
As for the black hand I heard black is slimming LOL.
