Teach Me to Reject

Andrew couldn't resist the candy sitting on the microwave. "Sure you can have it. But be sure to quickly eat it so no one else sees you. It is almost dinner time. He he." He chomped down once. "This is kind of hard." "Yup. He he." He bit down again when he realized he wasn't eating chocolate. He was a great sport and a few of us, including Andrew got a good chuckle.

Tonight after dinner, I was sitting on the couch goofing around with the kids when Jonny came over to me to show off his toothless grin. He had just pulled out another tooth and wanted to make sure I knew about it. Out of nowhere he changed subjects on me. He patted my tummy and said that it felt like a baby should be in there. Gee thanks, I thought.

"No, there is no baby in there sweetheart."

"Why not Mom? I want there to be a baby in there. Hey..... how does a baby get in there?" asked Jonny.

He wouldn't let me change the subject so I explained things at a six year old level.

"You see, a baby gets in a Mommy's tummy when a Mommy and Daddy love each so much and hug so long that God sees their love and decides it is the right time to put a baby inside."

"Really? Oh Wow! Please, please please do that with Daddy! I want you to have a baby! Just make sure it is a boy, kay?"

"Jonny, Mommy can't have any more babies from her tummy."

After I put the younger kids to bed, I sat down with the older ones to read another chapter from "Purpose Driven Life." Adam and Caleb especially were in a very playful mood and when I was done reading Caleb suggested we have a contest to see who can do "the Jerk" and "the Reject." I had trouble doing both so I showed them how to do "the Mashed Potato" instead. Envision Adam, Rachel, Caleb, and I dancing all over the living room! Oh what memories! And now, I want to go to my kids' next dance!

glad to hear that he was such a good sport about a mouth full of wax and making memeories in by dancing is one of the best ways to spend an evening!

I like that answer. I will forever remember the day that my sister (age 5 - I was 12) asked me what a virgin was. (We'd just finished watching Hocus Pocus). In my extremely uncomfortable 12-year old self, I "umm"-ed for a few minutes until she asked "is it like Libra and Scorpio?" to which I responded with an emphatic "Yes, that's it." But I like your answer much better. :)

All the dancing sounds fun!

I'm glad Andrew could laugh at himself about the "candy". The next time he eats a piece of chocolate he'll probably be a little cautious. :)

Before Aidan's first dance we spent about a week dancing in the living room every night to loud rock and pop music. Craig and I had so much fun! And hopefully Aidan felt more comfortable....he never would admit that it helped. Actually, I think kids' dances are so hard - the kids are too self-conscious (at least the boys are) to do fast dances, but the slow ones are nothing but near occasion of sin, as far as I can see. I'm not sure the kids want to hang onto each other so suggestivel sometimes, but if they wont' play fast songs, and the boys won't dance, what can they do?

Now, in RUSSIA, boys aren't so stupid - they DANCE! I'll never forget one of our trips - there was a big soccer tournament and every night the disco was full of kids -mostly boys - and adults dancing like crazy. It looked like so much fun!

OMG, this dance is really a craze among that age right now! LOL :)
My son was trying to do it the other day and I posted it as my FB status, about four or five friends said their kids or someone they knew was doing it too. So funny.
