It's Wednesday

More rain was expected today. What fun for the kids who get all excited about being able to bring out the umbrellas. I can never seem to keep enough in the house for all of them--- so yes my kids have to share.

Trying to figure out how to work the now broken (since yesterday I think) umbrella proved to be too exasperating for Jonny. "Just take your rain jacket, okay?"
Today I went to pick up Dennis's new glasses. Dennis was good about not touching them the whole drive home. His sometimes perfectionist type Mom--- me, thought that they needed to be tweaked just a bit so that they would sit on his nose better and----- oops, I snapped them in half. Needless to say, I am totally bummed out. Totally.
However, Jonny's new glasses are awesome and he is so proud because he picked them out all by himself! He no longer has bifocals which seems to have immediately corrected his crossed eye. Here we were patching and having him wear bifocals per his opthamologist and we noticed the problem only getting worse-- turns out his eyes were actually working against the prescription causing his right eye to begin turning outward instead of just inward. He is no longer looking over the top of them anymore. Yea!!!!--- for my handsome little guy!
This is what I get to cutely watch out my window when my daughter gets grounded from tv and computer. N-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-c-e.

This has been a problem for a very long time. Kids either cut the bag open too much or the bag leans over before it gets put away so that I get to walk on crunchy cereal as I make my morning coffee. But no more!
Ta-Da!
I splurged and for $5.50 I got myself this! It was the best five bucks I have spent in a very long time!

Alex's preschool teachers continue to give me ideas to help him with sensory issues, fine and gross motor skills, and overall delays when he is here at home with me. He continues to make such progress in all areas that it is very hard to believe that he has been home only 2 1/2 months.
I can't quite remember why, but for know particular reason today, I told Alex that I loved him because he was my son. Not that I don't tell him I love him-- but usually it is when I am hugging him, or putting him to bed, or comforting him when he got hurt--- but today I said just to say it---- and his face beamed like I couldn't believe. It reminded me of how little it takes to really make a child's day---- and so I proceeded to tell him a dozen or so more times in fun, little playful ways-- and he kept pointing to himself all smiley, repeating, "Sinook, sinook."
This is what a 104 degree fever can do to you. Just yesterday, Annalyn was battling a high fever-- and now she is not--- praise the Lord. Hoping none of the other kids get it.
Here are two out of seven of my favorite boys---- my oldest Adam and my youngest Dennis.

I'm glad Annalyn is feeling better, and I really hope with you that nobody else gets whatever made her feel so horrible! Sometimes I like what I see when one of my kids is grounded, that I wish I could remove those things from our lives permanently....but in this day and age it seems so un-thinkable!

Your note about saying "I love you" to Alex reminded me of my boys. They are so thrilled when I just say it out of the blue. It really does make a difference to them and I can't imagine how sad it is to go through life without someone randomly saying "I love you" from time to time.

Hope no one else comes down with that nasty fever!

I buy a bunch of umbrellas when the dollar store has them. I just consider them disposable!

The comment of saying i love you reminds me about telling my girls how proud i am of them or how nice it was that they did something helpful. Little things but to them its the world.

Also i hope nobody else gets that awlful fever. xxx

Oh, seeing those broken glasses... I hope they can be fixed or replaced without much expense or fuss. How frustrating.

So what does "sinook" mean, I couldn't get it to come up on google translate. Does it mean love?

Great pics.!!!
Joey just got new glasses and so far we've had to take them in three times to get fixed. Because they were very expensive...he can stomp on them , throw them etc and they can be fixed. However he may end up with the lenses being scratched.
Johnny looks very handsome in his glasses.

I love Jonny's new glasses! He looks so cool. :)

Ahh... I feel for you about Dennis's glasses, I broke my own a couple weeks ago but thankfully not as bad as you broke his, haha. Sorry. :)

Sorry to hear Annalyn wasn't feeling good, glad to hear that she is better, hope that none of the other kids (or you or John) get what she got.

Peace.

The umbrellas with kids always scares me. My husband's Grandpa lost an eye that way - wore a glass eye way back before they have the technology and medical advancements Dennis is benefiting from. Poor fever girl! It is all around here too....H1N1. Fever, colds, head junk. Stay well.

I have a question about Jonny if you dont mind, Does his eye still 'cross' when his glasses are off? My daughter has a cross eye, we have been patching her for 3 years, when her glasses are on they are straight but as soon as they come off, her left eye goes straight in.

I hope the rain lets up for you all. We have rain, too, so it is on both sides of the country! I also love the poem in your earlier post. Someone gave us that, too, just before we traveled to meet Grady. It was cut out from an old newspaper, a great keepsake!

I try to tell them all day everyday, even at school and in front of thier friends. We also sing "Love is all you need" together. Silly yes but loving!

I hope Annalyn feels completely better and soon! We've got H1N1 going around here. Pretty sure Brian had it last week, according to all descriptions, although he was not officially tested. New rule this week is any kid who gets it, and all their sibs (sick or not) have to stay home 5-7 days. Honor woke me at 5am today with 103.5F temp... hmm? Guess I'll be going to the clinic today, she doesn't have the symptoms of flu, and I hope it isn't, they've missed enough school this year!

btw - don't fret the glasses yet! Take them to the store and they might be able to weld them together. They might not look as pretty, but I doubt Dennis will care! Brian busted a pair of his twice (taekwondo and horse riding helmets are not gentle on glasses!) and his were repaired - and because we had them repaired at the place we bought them, they did not charge us a penny for the work!

I love the way the "upstairs" of the play structure in your yard is labeled...in chalk, looks like.

Hello,

I just remembered that there is a charity based in the UK that might be helpful for Dennis. It supports people with facial differences and offers advice for teachers, parents and children.

Had to laugh at the glasses incident. I too broke my daughter's first pair of glasses.

A rice and beans box was one of the things my daughter used (and still uses to this day b/c it's so much fun) for sensory issues.

Love the picture of Adam and Dennis, how sweet!

If the place you bought Dennis's glasses from can't fix them you might try a jewlery repair place as well. They can do the "welding" or soldering there and might be able to match the finish as well so it's not so noticealbe. I doubt they are totally beyond repair.

I have learned I can't adjust glasses and just take them in somewhere to be done - there's a special touch to the things.

I hope you are able to fix Dennis' glasses. I think that the idea for the cereal was great. Alex looked like he was having fun playing. If you don't mind me asking...what was he playing with? I have a child with a sensory processing issue and language and motor skill delays. I am always looking for new things to do with him. I would love to see a post that describes some of the fun and learning things that you do with all your kids. I think all us moms are looking for new ways to keep our kids busy and help them learn and grow at the same time. Thanks for the fun post and all the pics!
