Another One Down

More casualties.

Caleb has now joined Julia and John. I'm trying to get them all into the doctor today.

I am most concerned with Caleb and John who both have asthma on top of it all.

Not a good mix.

Thank goodness we have a nebulizer.

I wonder if it is H1N1.

I wonder who is next.

I wonder if doctored up Chicken and Rice soup is as beneficial as Chicken Noodle.

I wonder how long it will last.

Having a house full of sickies is no fun.

I hope you can get them in to see the doctor fast! I have had 2 come down with the flu this season. I got them in and started Tamaflu within 48 hrs. of symptoms starting. They both only missed 4 days of school and felt much better after only 2 days.

Good luck! Hope no one else follows!

Hi Christine, I was struck with some kind of nasty something - had a SEVERE sore throat - never had a sore throat like this before. I made chicken soup and added some cayenne pepper to it and that has seemed to help my throat alot. In addition, I drank, hot lemon and honey alone or in hot tea. I took VERY hot showers. I took zinc, vitamins, esp vit D and C. I am feeling somewhat better, but still not back to my usual self........I'm sure a big house of sickies is not fun. I hope my DH doesn't get it.

Oh Christine - the flu is no fun at all! Especially for good ole Mom!
Have them drink lots and lots of fluids - have the healthy kids work on lysoling absolutely everything possible! Lightswitches, everything in bathrooms, doorknobs, anything and everything! Soup of any kind is good because you want the body to have the fluids it needs!
Try to also segregate the sickos from everyone else if they have a fever! Gotta be tough with a large family! Ughhhhh! Keep yourself as healthy as possible... you might want to consider a mask for Dennis, since he is so young.

Big Hugs!
Amy

It could be H1N1, and if that's the case, they need Tamiflu within the first 24 hours because after that they can't take it. Be sure to clean and replace all toothbrushes once the cycle is over. Kids are considered high risk and can be given the vaccine for H1N1, and can get it again just like they can get the flu again. I work for public health in Kentucky, and we are strongly urging kids to have this, to prevent others from getting it. Check with their dr. Good luck, and stay hydrated. Also with the toothbrushes, if they are all together it's not a bad idea to separate them to prevent them from touching so germs don't pass.

Ah sickies are no fun! We just recovered from H1N1 in our house...no fun! Our nebulizer and albuterol saved the day for sure.
Hope everyone gets better soon.

Oh dear. Praying for healing and protection.

It's not the noodle, or rice, but the chicken and vegetables that are slowly cooked into the soup, starting with cold water... the garlic is just an added benefit!

(Now that is how generations of my family do it.)

I hope everyone will get better soon!

Oh no! I hope they all get better soon. This flu has been caught by 3 out of 4 of our family members so far. It hasn't been the worst thing ever but my son had a fever for 6 days! Yuck! Our ped said she thought it was H1N1 but that she had no way of testing it. I still wonder if it is-I hope so because that means we have had it and we don't need to worry. I guess we will never know.

I'll definitely be praying for y'all. I hope everyone get's well and no one else succumbs. I'm pretty sure Chicken and Rice is just as fortifying as Chicken Noodle, as long as it's prepared with love. LOL.

Praying your family is healed soon! (And that it isn't H1N1!)

Hi Christine,

I hope your poor sick people get better soon. It could very well be the H1N1 and perhaps it might be a good thinkg to keep them isolated from the rest of the family as this strain of the flu is VERY contageous. This is what the health department is advising in the city I live in. Good luck with all of them. don't you get it! Mum's can't get sick you know :-)

christine dont you know by now that it isnt the NOODLES in the chicken soup, its the LOVE that makes the difference. hope everyone feels better soon. we are avoiding the clinic completely because too many sick people are there! I cant risk Sophie getting
h1n1 before the vaccine arrives. She is too tiny, too risky, has heart condition, and could have lung problems. we dont even know all what she has yet but I would rather not find out post mortem! so far staying away from the clinic has paid off lol. no one is sick here. (none of them go to school full time either)

Will pray for a quick recovery for all. Hope you can get into the dr quickly.

I hope you got everyone to the docors as if it's H1N1, they need the tamaflu right away. Hope they are feeling better in the morning. You can't get it as someone old enough to drive needs to be well to take care of the family.

Hmmm....I hope they all get better soon!

1/3 of our middle school was absent today due to H1N1...

I pray all the kiddos get well soon. Our school gave the kids the h1n1 and the reg flu shot today.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon. Sounds like Dr. Mom is on duty for the duration! Chicken with Rice should do the trick as well as Chicken noodle. I think it's really the chicken broth part that is beneficial and rice or noodles are gravy.

Praying they all get better soon and no more casualties. My niece has H1N1 :o( .

I sure hope they are all feeling better soon and that if it is the flu thats its no N1N1 and it will be gone from your house very quickly. A few days ago you posted about Annalyn not feeling well either and on medication, could it have been the same thing? How is she feeling now?

It went through our house (well, not me, but I tend not to get flu) and Brian only had high (HIGH) fever - no chest issues at all, even though he is the one who gets asthma symptoms. Brad and Honor had chest cold symptoms that took longer to get over. We didn't do the tamiflu, just rotated motrin and tylenol to control (barely) the fevers, and for the chest congestions, lots and lots of guaifenisen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guaifenesin). Hope the rest of you guys stay well!
