After school and work on Friday afternoon, we packed up our van to head down to Anaheim. Actually, we loaded into the van twice because the first time there was so much bickering about seats, pillows, and a general lack of excitement and thankfullness to be heading out on vacation that I asked all the kids to get out of the car and go to their rooms. After speaking to all of them, I asked them to try again--- this time things were much better. Embarrassed by all of our behavior because the neighbors heard I'm pretty sure, I was still happy I did it because it set the mood for the whole weekend and everyone behaved great!
For dinner we ate at In & Out. Adam took everyone's order in the car so instead of chaos at the counter, everyone sat down while I ordered everything.
I don't know about you, but my kids love getting the hats and stickers.
Wouldn't you know it, we hit traffic on the I-5 so we didn't arrive at the motel until after 9:00pm--- just in time for swimming, I say!
While I got Alex and Dennis ready for swimming, the kids watched the fireworks outside the window.
We love this motel because not only are their rooms big enough to accommodate our size family, but it has an indoor heated pool!
Then it was off to bed!

Surprisingly, the kids were up very early even after falling asleep after midnight--- so we got ready for Knott's Berry Farm.
Everyone was so excited to get into the park!

Tickets bought~~~ OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!

Funnel cakes were a whopping $10 a piece not to mention way too big for just one person to eat, so I had the kids partner up with a buddy to share their funnel cake with. We all ate until we were stuffed and there was still funnel cake left over! They were so yummy!
Adam was our navigator for the day. He mapped out every ride and did a great job of making sure that every other ride was one that the whole family or at least most of the family could ride.
The park was not very crowded so we rode the swings three times in a row! By then, I seriously felt queasy.
Like Dennis was at Magic Mountain last year, Alex was exactly the same way. He was overwhelmed and afraid of all the rides. If he had it his way, he would have just sat in his stroller all day and watched. Instead, John and I made sure to include him in a few rides here and there all the while comforting and reassuring him that we were both there for him. In the end, it was Alex who couldn't stop talking about all the fun he had---- all the way back to the motel.
Rachel also commented numerous times how great this trip was. Being the oldest one out of our girls with the least amount of years being a part of our family under her belt, she was thrilled to be a part of this memory making. It was a joy seeing her excitement!

I was pleased to see how well all the kids got along. Caleb gave Anna's tired feet a break.
It was nice when our whole family was able to ride the same ride.
For lunch, we ate burgers and chili fries!
By nighttime, most of us were pooped out, but a few of the kids wanted to keep going and going. Finally, we told them that the Merry-Go-Round would be our last ride. So we rode it three times!
All in all, we had a blast at Knott's Berry Farm! No one got lost---- except for Dennis' shoe!
Sunday morning, we went to Denny's (right next door to our motel) for breakfast.

We waited till it was later, around 10 am so that it was more like a brunch so that the kids could hold out until 3pm when we got to the Pirate Dinner show.

With time to kill until the show, we checked out of our motel and went to the mall!

His board was sweet----- down to the different colored wheels that he had picked out himself.

The show was very interactive, the food was great, and everyone enjoyed themselves!

Poor Alex cried every time the pirates shot off their gun. Thankfully Daddy was there to keep him safe.

Since Anna's birthday is later this week, we let her buy a few things at Claire's. Of course, she chose a new pair of glasses--- which I think look darling on her. She also picked out some magnet stud earrings since her pierced ears kept getting infected and we took the earrings out.
Happy early birthday Anna!
Happy early birthday Anna!
Since we had even more time to spare, Caleb bought a new skateboard with his birthday money.
His board was sweet----- down to the different colored wheels that he had picked out himself.
But as soon as we were in the car, he noticed that the board had a pressure crack from when the guy tightened up the trucks--- so back to the store to pick out a new deck. The store was great about it and let us make an even exchange.
Finally, off to the Pirate Dinner Show!
Finally, off to the Pirate Dinner Show!
They had pre-show Hors d'oeuvres which the kids chowed down on!
Sveta was very thirsty, so John bought this souvenir cup with limitless refills. We made sure we got our money's worth!

When the show was over, we got a few pictures with the pirates before piling back into the van for the long ride home.
As we drove away all we could hear was Alex yelling, "Bye Boom! Bye Boom!"
And you know what?
He had a great big smile on his precious little face!

Wow, what an awesome vaca weekend! Nick would have gone crazy for that Pirate show. I am just amazed at how you all function when your are out and about. So awesome! We struggle with one! ;)
That sounds just wonderful!! Family time is so precious and so much harder to get as they get older, treasure each moment!
Oh, by the way, my middle daughter had a terrible time with infected ears. We found that it was the metals interacting with clorine that caused it. I noticed you swim alot, maybe something to think about. She was able to do it in the winter with no swimming, now she just takes them out when she swims and no problem.

What a great holiday!! - full of fun-packed memories for the children! So glad you all enjoyed yourselves & it's must be so special for Alex as his first holiday with his family!
How fun! What an awesome family memory.
What a great trip! Looks like everyone had fun!
aww, that looks like such a great time!!!! I"m glad you had fun!!!!
Oh my! It looks like you all had a BLAST!! I love that you all wore your tie-dye shirts. SO cute!
I think I will take your "getting out of the van & revamping your vacation attitude" technique and store it away in my memory. I'm sure that will come in handy! :)
Attitude can make all the difference!
Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

Love vacation pics!!! Aww...family time! Hey, the start is important- kind of like our listening to Christ....if we don't start of listening.....our time alone with Him doesn't really work.
That sounds awesome!!!
So glad you guys had an awesome time!
Your family is our model. We adopted 4 children adding to 4 at home and are still trying to figure out this big family thing. How do you handle hotels?? You can email me privately if you want. Shimai at comcast dot net.
What a fun and memory making weekend you all had.
Just love the tie dyed tee shirts that you all made. It sure made it easy to keep an eye on everyone as with your size family it's not an easy task for you and John.
Thanks for sharing the pictures from your vacation.
Such a wonderful vacation! I think it was a great gift that you gave your kids when you allowed them another chance to have a better attitude when you started your trip! We can all use a little reminding sometimes!
What motel did you stay in? We have 6 kids and it will be hard to find any place that can accommodate us. I can use any tips that you have!
Sounds like you all had a great vacation! I will have to try the get out of the car and start over thing when needed with my kids :) Love all the pics and especially the one of all of you in the previous post!
Christine, I'm 54 years old, but....could you adopt ME??
What an amazing family you have. Bless you all!

Sounds like a blast, or should I say a "boom"? Poor little guy, it is so overwhelming for them at times. I think he did great, he looked happy whenever I saw him in a picture. How wonderful your family is, it's such a joy to read about you all.
Sounds like an awesome weekend!
I love the fact you got them all out of the car again! I don't know if I would have been that brave once they were packed in! I also love the fact you are always so organized to get everyone to wear the same thing so you don't lose anyone...and the fact you get to enjoy each kid, your hubby, AND take fabulous photos...sigh! Next time you are at In and Out have a double-double-grilled onions protein style for me! HUGS!
Can Anna ride the rides now? Is she tall enough?
I think my kids stayed in the same motel during their trip to SoCal for a night. :-)
Looks like everyone had fun!
What a great weekend.
What a fun time for your family! I know my children would love that pirate show!
My Greta keeps getting infections in her ears like Anna...what do you do for her? Is there a certain kind of earring that works best?
Every hotel we try to book at cites fire regulations and insists we get 2 rooms (and we only have 6 kids). How did you get away with all those kids in a couple of rooms?
What a wonderful treat for you and your family!
I still am in shock that you can find a room big enough for all of you! I can rarely do that, and we currently have 5 less people!
Sounds like you had a great vacation! Just think of the memories that you'll have forever!
Looks like everyone had a great time. Nothing like a fam vac. to make memories.
God Bless you all

Awww, you guys look like you had sooo much fun!! I am so glad you guys enjoyed yourself!! Your kids look so well behaved and you do a wonderful job with them!!
Also, I wanted to let you know I had the same problem growing up Anna does with her ears getting infected. I finally found out I was allergic to the metal and now have to be careful with the jewelry I buy.
I know they are kind of expensive, but when I was about 11 or 12 my parents bought me a pair of good small white gold hoop earrings and I have never had a problem. I make sure I take them out everynight and clean them. I obviously don't still have them, but I have a similar pair now. Just letting you know about my experience in case she ever wants to have pierced ears. I also had the same problem with necklaces. They would turn my neck green!!
Just wanted to tell you hi and come out of lurkdom :)
I love reading your blog, it is so refreshing to read about people who actually discipline their kids :)
Christine - First off I love reading you blog and I love it. I have something I did and would like to email you but I can not find where your emails is. Can you please email me at raeannan@loganmichael2008.com
Thanks and glad you guys had a good vacation.
I enjoyed this post so much that I had to come back and read it and look at the pictures all over again. :)
Sounds like a fantastic weekend away. I've never heard of Knots Berry Farm or the Pirate show..but here in Canada we have a Midevil times dinner..it's pretty cool.
looks like lots of fun was had by all! great way to spend the weekend I think
It's been a while since I've stopped by, but loved to catch up on your family happenings. The trip to Anaheim looked like such a blast. I loved the matching t-shirts and think it's just awesome that your kids were excited about wearing them. You have a gem of a family. Thanks for blessing us with your stories.
That is just amazing. I've never had a vacation like that in my life. I had a lovely, wonderful childhood - but never anything like that. We'd go on jeep rides through high Rocky Mountain passes for our vacation.
Anyway - I am amused at myself because I figured Knotts Berry Farm was a place where you would pick berries, perhaps see how jam is made. Little did I know!
♥ HOW FUN FUN FUN!!! They look like they're having a blast! So just curious how many hotel rooms did you guys have to get? I remember my parent getting 2 but that was for 6 kids and 2 adults... Just wondering? :)
