Often, we have company over at our house because we want our kids to feel comfortable having their friends over. We want our home to be "the place" that all of our kids' friends want to come to. We want our home to be a place that is fun, relaxing, and known for its good food.

So far, it is working, and often times our home has visitors on the weekends, especially during the summer. Sure, our food bill goes up, but so does our chances of raising kids that stay out of trouble because we know where they are, and who they are hanging out with.
Have you heard that saying that comes on tv at 10:00 pm at night: "It is almost 10 o'clock. Do you know where your children are?" I sure hope parents can answer yes.
10 inspiring thoughts:
That's exactly what we've done in our home, it's not unusual to have at least 10 to 12 people for dinner. Or have friends over to play games. I totally agree that it's so good to have our children at home, were you know they are safe and with safe friends, I am willing to spend extra on food any day to have this be the place to be.
May God richly bless you as you continue to bless so many.

Our home is also the place to be.

The saying on our news is.."It's 11 o clock..do you know where your children are?" And of course I do.

I just wanted to say again how much I love your blog and your family!

I remember hearing that saying as I was growing up! And I agree about having the home open and welcoming. Especially when the friends are wholehearted and we can have good fellowship and encourage each other to faithfulness!
I just want to say that I am so impressed with Dennis-the-fish! He just makes us all smile. Your family is very special.

So true!
We actually put in a pool like yours about 3 years ago when Trevor was just getting into the teenage for that same reason. His friends are here ALL the time! It gets loud, I'm always running out of soda but I know where my kid is and the other parents know they're in good hands when they're at our house. Now that all of them are pretty much driving some of the girls will stop by just to say "hi" even if Trevor's not here. I feel very close to his friends and have been an ear to them many times. All kids/teens need a safe place to "crash" =)
Hugs,
Amy
I'm with you. My 14 year old has some friends and even though boys will be boys, I think their parents are a little to relaxed. So I feel much more comfortable with Coltan's friends staying with us in my home.
I hope Dennis' eye continues to improve.
I love the pictures of all the kids. The pictures from the lightening storm were pretty as well.
Take care and happy Monday.
PS When do the kids get out for summer vacation? Does your schools go year round?
Funny you post this, I never see any of the kids friends over.. Then again who would need friends with all those bro's & sis! lol
There always seems to be one or two non-family members around when we visit. In the May 25th entry I saw a few faces that aren't family in the pictures. But I guess, no one wants to take the time to pick up the camera as often when so much fun stuff is going on or that the other kids feel so at home that they just don't stand apart from the family in the photos.
Wished we lived closer. I would love to come and hang with all my kiddos. So they could meet another family with lots of teenagers. :D
Someday we will have to plan that 3 hour drive. :D
