Dennis is totally enjoying the water. He knows how to hold his breath and has been practicing going under the water all by himself to get these rings.

It is pretty cool to watch him.

Can you guess who this girl is?
Adam and his friend made this awesome bottle rocket for their science class.

Adam told me he felt jipped because the rocket landed on the roof of the school after the first launch. Everyone else got to shoot their rocket off twice. I asked him if that made him get a lower grade. He said no. I said stop complaining then. Now that he knows how to make them and shoot them off, he can be the coolest big brother and do this same project with a few of his younger brothers this summer vacation.
John made this sprinkler box. He also made a lattice screen to block the pool pump.

Great job honey!
John's parents stayed a while tonight when they dropped off Andrew and Jonny from piano class. It is always nice having them around.
Grandma and Julia always manage to get in a a game of Rumikub. Rachel joined them for the last game.

Here is another picture of me and my man.
Can you believe he is turning 40 next month? I think we both don't look a day over 24 (just kidding.)
Just as Grandma and Grandpa were getting ready to leave, the sky was filled with flashes of lightening. A thunderstorm! We wished them a safe drive home, and then John went outside with the kids to watch the flashes of light. Finally, I told the younger boys that it was bedtime.

Of course they all wanted to sleep together--- but they could not agree about the blinds being open or shut. I decided for them that the blinds would be open so that they could fall asleep watching the lightening.
"There is nothing to be afraid of Jonny. Did you know that I think lightening is a gift from God? He loves us so much and wants to make sure that our nights are not the same day after day where we can get bored so tonight he decided to put on a display of fireworks in the sky for us. Kind of like when Mommy and Daddy buy fireworks on the Fourth of July so that you can enjoy watching them."
Soon after, it started raining-- hard.
Soon after, it started raining-- hard.
The kids thought it was so cool.
I tried to get a picture of the awesome lightening, but this is all I got.
I tried to get a picture of the awesome lightening, but this is all I got.
Still, I think it shows how beautifully lit the sky was.
Rachel loved standing out in the warm rain.

Yes, that crazy girl went to bed in her wet clothes!

Looks like y'all had an awesome day! I'm guessing that the mystery girl in the photo is Annalyn. Am I right?
Also, lightning scares me even though I'm an adult...I will drive in rain, snow, sleet or hail, but if there's lightning, I will get off the road as fast as I can. I know that your car is supposed to be really safe in a storm because of the metal frame, but it's still scary. This fear started last year when I was driving in a horrific storm...lightning was literally hitting the road a few hundred feet ahead of me, there was intense flooding and rain was sheeting down. It was awful and I've been scared of it ever since.
How awesome to see Dennis in the pool. Looks like you all have such a great night. I LOVE thunder and lighting and then the rain and that smell after a rain is the best. Glad it ended it a great night :)
There are few things more enjoyable than a summer storm at the end of a beautiful day. Can't wait for rainy season myself!
Simple God given things, always make the best memories .:)
cool photos :)
I love lightening, it seems so magical to me... :)
My sister was here for a week and we did not even get one game of rummikub in.
that looks like so much fun, standing out in the rain. I love playing in the rain when it's warm. I used to be afraid of thunder and lightning too but now I love them and love to listen to the thunder and rain. OH, and I didn't get to say this yesterday, but I am really praying that God would provide an even better and amazing new doctor for Dennis. :)
I'm going to guess Sveta because you always talk about her love of water. She does seem like a water bug, and absolutely happy anywhere near the pool.
On another note, I absolutely hate thunderstorms, unless I am in a place with really neat lightning streaks. I don't normally get that where I am from, so it's never much fun.
I love thunder storms also
What a great day. :) Dennis is so cute going under the water. I am so glad he is not afraid. Our 4 year old won't even go under water so I think this is so cool. You go, Dennis. :)
Looks like an awesome day! What a brave boy Dennis is! He is so cute! and the one pic is Sveta!
♥ That's great that he does so well in the pool... I need to get my kids in swimming lesson but it's so spendy here. What is a sprinkler box? Rumikub is so much fun we used to play it with my grandma too. That's a great picture of the rain drops and I love the silhouette type picture that looks really cool. Sounds like a great day! :)
Christine: I changed my comment under the "six things" post. I hopefully didn't offend you or anyone else. I understand now where you are coming from and I apologize.
I've tried getting pictures of lightning before, but I never could. *lol* ... I ended up video taping it, and then getting still shots from the video. (Cheating! *lol*)
Our wild ride home included hail and dust across the freeway that mimicked fog including its lack of visibility. We scraped by a fallen limb that monopolized most of the exit ramp. We sat in the car in the driveway—no electricity so the garage door wouldn’t open- before we decided to make a mad dash through the pouring rain to the front door. After setting up candles, (thanks, Christine for our newest two) and flashlights we searched for ½ hour before finding KC under our bed amidst the boxes stored there. She treated us as if we had personally brought the thunder and lightening to torment her. After an hour, we were settled in reading by candlelight when a loud screeching stirred us to action. We grabbed some earplugs from the garage as we realized that was the sound of 7 smoke detectors going off at once. We ran around extinguishing candles, opening windows and doors and vigorously fanning the air. After forever, the raucous blaring stopped and where’s KC? Couldn’t find her inside or in the backyard, and uh-oh, did she go out the front door when it was open? After searching up and down the street we found her inside, under a different bed, obscured by boxes. She ignored us, we were dead to her. Today, the sun is shinning, KC woke us by rustling plastic bags before jumping on our bed for some petting and after inspection, no damage to my car. Great new day.
Thunder and fire alarms??! Oh! How dare you! Good thing you left the vacuum off or I think that would have been strike 3 for KC.
The photos of the kids are wonderful!!! Looks like a lovely day, and night. We MISS the rain!
What a neat day all together!! Time with grandparents, swimming to top it off with a thunderstorm!
Blessings,
Amy
I LOVE lightening! I'm so glad you encourage your children to enjoy it - and what could be better than standing in the rain!!! Wet clothes to bed, though.... That sounds chilly.
Now I have one hint to how you do it all... John's parents dropping the boys off after piano class. The running makes me crazy...and I don't even let the kids do that many activities.
