Dennis is signing more and more. Not only does he sign please, more, eat, no, thank you, and I love you, but he has also learned to point to what he wants or where he wants to go. Often we will find Dennis standing by the back door pointing at his swing. His sweetness is hard to ignore, and usually one of his siblings will take him out for five minutes.

Here is Caleb and Dennis swinging together.

John took the kids to an awesome activity sports park today where Adam, Caleb, Sveta, and William boogie boarded and surfed on a sheet wave attraction. The other kids played in the arcade, and Julia and Dennis stayed home with me. It was really nice that Julia "out of the blue" wanted to spend time her Mom----- me. Dennis took a long nap while Julia and I baked a cake, played Rummikub, and talked. It was very nice. This one on one time that John and I get with the kids always seems to be just perfect. The other day, John took Rachel to work with him and then out for lunch.
Ever heard of Amish Friendship bread?

My Mom gave me a starter and I just finished up the eighth day. In just two more days, I will make some of the best bread out of the starter you see in the picture. Thanks Mom.
Tonight we colored eggs. It was a nice surprise for the kids who actually forgot about this fun tradition. Each kid got to color two or three eggs, which was plenty for them.

Though our egg dying time is always short and sweet, the kids always enjoy dipping their eggs and then decorating them with stickers or glitter.
Sveta was amazed how the egg changed color, and she was proud at how beautiful her three eggs turned out.

As soon as the eggs were done, the kids were begging to eat them! They acted like they hadn't eaten in days---- yet we had just had tacos, burritos, and chocolate cake for dinner! Can you believe Jonny polished off not one but two eggs?
If you are wondering whether or not Dennis dyed eggs---- I was a mean Momma and didn't let him. Two years old is just a bit too young, but next year he will be old enough, I think. However, he did have fun hanging out with us.
Dennis is doing great after his surgery. The nurse who saw Dennis ealrier this week thought that he had a fungal infection going on in his scalp where there were three incisions close together. Now, I am applying a light layer of anti-fungal cream every night which seems to be helping. I also apply a thin layer of bacitracin to his scars that have not fully healed, and Mederma to the scars that are completely healed. The doctor suggested massaging his healed scars for a few minutes a couple times a day which seems to be helping with the color.
If all goes well with our insurance approving the referral in time, Dennis will be getting his prosthetic eye this coming week! You better believe I am calling the insurance company on a regular basis to make sure things are moving along.
Rachel loves her new kitty slippers. They even meow when you press the ear.

What an interesting post! I really enjoyed reading it and remembering the fun my sister and I had dyeing eggs.
I just wanted you to know how right the doctor is about massaging the scars to make the redness go away. My doctor told me the same thing after my surgery. It wasn't much fun, but the results were so good that I can barely see the scar now.
Happy Easter..
Happy Easter!
Have you ever had a Fruit Frendship Cake? It takes 3 months to ferment the fruit but is amazing. You produce enough for 5 bundt cakes. The idea is that you make one or two and then give some of the "starter juice" to some friends, along with the recipe.
Happy Easter!! And lots of love to you all. What great photos. I love the picture of Sveta and her egg :)
Have a very happy Easter!
Love the pictures.
Happy Easter to you family, and Chag Pesach Sameach to anyone celebrating Passover!
I am keeping my fingers crossed so that dennis can get his prosthetic next week and that he will have no trouble adjusting to it!
Whether it is Easter or Passover one celebrates at this time of the year there is so much to be thankful for that we tend to take for granted! Thank you for showing the blessings of a life centred on HaShem!
Since the kids ate the eggs after dying them, it would have been fun to play that Russian game... If they get any more boiled eggs...here it is. Each person holds his or her egg, and "greets" the other person by hitting (I would say tapping, but - it is more than that!) the eggs together. If your egg cracks, you're out. The winner is the person whose egg is still uncracked at the end.
Happy Easter.
What a nice post! The kids look like they are having fun! Count your blessings, my 14 and 15 y.o. barely made it through the egg hunt this morning - they were just a little bit too cool for it (though dying the eggs was fun as always). I told them next year they didn't have to have a hunt - they didn't have to look for baskets with goodies either - that changed their attitudes a little bit. ;o} They love those baskets!!! LOL
Can't wait to see Dennis with his new eye! He's so darned cute as he is, though...!!
I looked up the FlowRider from the link you sent - that looks like FUN!!!
Happy Easter!!
I love the amish frienship bread!!!!
Your family looks great!
I'm glad that Dennis is starting to use sign and other gestures to communicate. I am wondering if he's receiving speech/language therapy services through Early Intervention? They could really help him catch up with his peers, whether in sign or speech.
It looks like you had a great time! Happy Easter to you and your family
♥ What a fun day! My kids love coloring easter eggs! :)
I have never dyed eggs as a child- and have never dyed eggs with my kids- and we don't have the Easter bunny at the mall- is it because we are Canadian?
We give the kids chocolate- and
have an egg hunt inside-
Do all Americans dye Easter eggs?
It seems popular on many blogs-
Dennis looks so cute- he is healing so well from his surgeries.
I forgot to add- Anna looks so much older and taller!
What an even more handsome little boy Dennis has become!! It's amazing what a whole lotta love and some surgery can do!!
Girl, I'm with ya! My 2-year-old did not dye eggs this year either :)
Happy Easter to you!
