Bless His Heart

First off, let me start off by saying that Adam gave me permission to post this video. I went back and forth with whether or not I should, thinking that I should try and preserve his dignity and not cause him embarrassment, but Adam was really okay with me posting it----- and my reason for posting it was not to embarrass him, so here it is.

Adam and Julia have worked very hard the past few months. They have been challenged at the new music school they are attending, and their passion for music has blossomed. Adam has also been playing bass in the worship band this past year which has really been a wonderful experience for him.

For this concert Julia not only played "Indescribable", but she and Adam played a big part in the big finale of this year's Music Recital---- Hosanna by Hillsong.

As the clicking of the drumsticks counted down the beginning of the song, I got goosebumps. The song is powerful all on its own, but as a Mom watching her daughter playing the keyboard and her son playing the guitar, it somehow meant so much more to me.

See...... the vision of this music school they attend is to develop and train up Christ believing artists who will in turn communicate the message of Christ through music. Two of my children up on that stage gave me such hope for the future for not only them but all of my children.

As I watched the band play it was obvious that Adam was not himself. I thought it was nerves--- Adam's teacher knew it was something worse since Adam rarely misses a beat.

Then it happened.

I sat there for a moment paralyzed. What do I do? Come on Christine-- think. Adam was even more paralyzed than I so I ran up to help him. We quickly got him off stage-- and the show went on! Bless my son's heart. I felt so bad for him. Even in the midst of it all, he was more concerned for his guitar than himself--- we had just bought him that guitar as an early birthday present and he wanted to take care of it.

My dear Adam. You were amazing------ you made me cry with such joy that you are my son. Even though I know it was out of your control--- you exited the stage with a bang!

On a side note--- God is so very good. For whatever reason, the group has been asked to play for the whole church a few Sundays from now---- Adam will get a second chance!

Oh the poor guy....all I saw was him doubled over. Is he okay?

Poor Adam, I hope he feels better soon and that his ego isn't too damaged.

I love that song. We sing it at church too. They sounded great. What an honor that they would be invited to play for the "big" church.

oh...that actually made me cry.
Adam - wow - what fortitude you showed, playing through even when you were feeling so crummy - you should be really proud of yourself.

Great job to the band too - they didn't miss a beat.

Oh Gosh! Everyone has one of those moments in their life. Sadly they all seem to come at a fragile age. Hats off to him for being ok with you posting it. A sign of great maturity on his part! Hope he is feeling better and that his next performance is better. They both did awesome!

Well, it sounded great until then. You had mentioned awhile ago that something was going around. He has nothing to be embarrassed about though. They sounded great - and I know he is an awesome guitar player! - these things happen. Everybody gets sick, sometimes it's convenient and you have warning, sometimes not. Actually, it was brave of him to get up there and try, even if he didn't feel 100%. Get a video of the next one too :)

I forgot to mention, I liked how the group just went right on doing the worship song, so that all the attention wasn't on poor Adam.

I dont know you or Adam personally, although sometimes from your blog I feel I do.
But I just wanted to let you and him know, I hope and pray that my sons grow up to be the man that Adam is today, even as young as he is, he has the character of a great man.
Life happens, he dealt with it, and moved ahead, if that isnt great, I dont know what is.

More kudos to Adam and you, Christine, for helping him. He certainly is a young man who would make any mom proud! And, great job by the rest of the band too!

Christine, I've been reading your blog for a while. I love your no-nonsense parenting and as a young woman who will soon start a family I read your posts avidly hoping one day I'll be able to do such an amazing job as you do. I just wanted to use this post to say the band sounds really good and to send my best wishes to Adam.

Poor guy. I'm sure his spirits will return. every time I see him, he's always got the guitar strapped on.

When Jen and I move up and he sees my all my recording gear, you figure he'll want to "lay some tracks" once I get it set up? He's probably never seen a 10 inch reel to reel tape recorder let alone in person much less the magic they can do.

When he can hear a recording of himself made in a comfortable setting played back in an equally comforting setting, he will hear how good he sounds and only get better as time goes on.

We're there for ya bro!

Love you

Oh no! He must have been feeling horrible up there . . . I`m very impressed that he went onstage to play . . . most people would have just gone to bed.

Also, the band sounded awesome, can`t wait for the next video! Love that they kept going without missing a beat. And is that Julia`s voice on backup?

Hope Adam feels better soon.

Adam, you were just fine! Don't worry about getting sick--everyone has at least one embarrassing moment in their life! You'll probably laugh about this one day--when you're feeling better!

And good for you and the group that you've been asked to play again!

Adam, years ago President George Bush, the elder, did the same thing you did at a dinner table in Japan (I think) with a camera crew filming for showing all over the world! He would know exactly how you feel, from personal experience. You're in good company!

And you and the rest of the group did a super job! You're a great guy!

One of the reasons I have always been glad I was in theater was the I have embarrassed myself in front of people in every way possible (well....not THAT one, actually - but a LOT of others just as bad!) and it gives you a lot of confidence after a while. It really is a strange sort of gift. I feel so sorry for other adults who are afraid of public speaking, etc. Adam is already showing huge courage by allowing you to post that. Great kid! That, in and of itself, would give me extra confidence in him!

Juniper said...

I did that once at that age but luckily it was only in a rehersal. He did so well to go out feeling so bad and thank god for your fast thinking.I would have just sat there stunned.

Poor Love! You can see just before he's sorta sighing and trying to keep it together which I'm sure everyone knows the feeling when your gonna be sick! :o(
Maybe post a video of him playing when feeling 100 % cause it was so good even when he wasn't feeling great!
It happened to my Nephew when he was doing an Easter speech at church, right on the font! Love him!

Adam,

You showed wonderful poise and courage in playing when you were ill. As a musician, I know how it is to have to play when you feel like that. I remember falling over in a dead faint while playing a concert in college. I was in the front of the stage. Yikes.

Your band sounded wonderful and you are obviously really good on guitar! Keep playing and I'm proud of you~

I'm sure he will excel at his second chance.

And the show went on! Wow, just like seasoned professionals. I think they all deserve a major pat on the back for the way they handled it. No wonder they got invited to do another gig.
And I agree, Adam, you're a real trooper for giving it your best try and hanging in there as long as you could.
