When I finished my two weeks of dieting, I was down a solid 10 pounds! I took a few days off eating more carbs than I should have-- but they were healthy ones if that counts for anything.
I altered a recipe for homemade granola which I splurged on. It is sweetened with grape jelly and applesauce and has tons of coconut and nuts and dried fruit. Very yummy!

I also altered a chocolate chip cookie recipe and came up with this super healthy version. And guess what??? The kids ate them and Rachel loved them! Can you see my spatula? Sveta accidentally chipped it when we dropped it on the floor the other day. Still, I just can't force myself to throw it away. It still works. Why waste money? It is just going to help fill up a landfill, right? So, I'm keeping it.

Anna thought it would be fun to wear this step counter. Daddy has one through work as part of a fitness plan. She tried to see how high she could get the count. Is it just me or is she looking taller already?

Adam has been home with me because of his chicken pox. That means helping me around the house a little more than normal. Thankfully no one else has gotten it so far. I know that could still change because it takes a while for the virus to incubate, but I am hopeful.

The girls picked oranges from a friend's house over the weekend. Look how big this one was! Rachel peeled it in the car and we all ate it!

Julia had fun with her orange.
I had waited to post this in hopes that she might be found, but our lovely Rosie has run away. She was gone as fast as we got her. Sveta and Annalyn took it the hardest. We have been praying that a wonderful family has taken her in and is feeding and loving her. This brings the girls some comfort, but they are still looking for her. As far as comparing getting an animal to getting a child, I was not trying to make the comparison. It is just that with a few of my daughters they need every example when given the opportunity for them to learn that a commitment is something that is permanent and not something that someone should change their mind about. If Alexsey was allergic to the cat, we would take every procaution to keep him healthy. Caleb and John are allergic already and that is why we don't allow our animals to live in the house.

Dennis really enjoyed his bath last night. The swelling in his face is gone and he is looking and feeling like his old self.

Here is my little snug-bug after his bath!
Dennis is back to running around and staying busy! Don't worry about our trooper--- your prayers continue to heal him Godspeed!

Oh, and in case you are not following our adoption blog, go take a peek over there. I found some old pictures of the little boy we are hoping to adopt. He is just too cute!

So all your animals live outdoors?
Glad Dennis is doing so well..and that no one else has gotten chicken pox..
Cats need to be kept inside for a week or so whenever they are moved to a new home otherwise they try to go back where they came from. It takes them a while to adjust and feel like a new place is home. You might try keeping the next one in the garage for a while.
Dennis is looking great! And I'm glad your diet is still going well. I have lost somewhere between 5 and 7 pounds. By cuuting the carbs back, I have also cut out the gluten which is making a huge difference for me. By the time I'm done I will have sprouted long fuzzy ears and a cottonball tail.
Dennis sure bounced back quickly this time around! Thank God for that.
Sorry your new cat is missing. When we moved to a new home, our cat kept running back to the old house. I couldn't keep her inside either, so there wasn't a whole lot we could do.
First, are you going to share your new cookie recipe with us?
Second I agree with others, you might be able to find the cat at the old house. Our outdoor cat came with the house, the owner was moving to an apartment and this cat had always been an outdoor cat (we live in the country) So the cat stayed. We also have two indoor cats (no allergies here) and as our outdoor cat ages she is spending more and more time indoors. It's great to see how well Dennis is doing! God is so good to help little ones heal quickly.
Dennis really is a trooper, huh? He is looking amazing...he looks better than I did just a few days past surgery. :)
I laugh at the missing cat story. Certainly not because the cat ran away -- I am very sad about that. Honestly? I'm very upset. But I laugh because if you "adopted" that cat, yet kept it outside, how was the cat to know she truly belonged to your family? I am painfully sad for Rosey because she is out there somewhere, probably scrounging for food and probably very thirsty, most likely in a dangerous situation with traffic and other predators. How did you think she would feel as though she "belonged" to your family if she is shut out at night her first night home? Most likely she thought it was a great place Saturday -- she was fed and given water, played with, but then she had to have thought it was time to move on when darkness fell. I hope and pray that she was an outdoor cat in her previous family. An indoor cat could most likely not survive for long if forced to suddenly become an exclusively outdoor cat. I understand the allergy situation. I really do as 3 out of 4 of us suffer from them in our house, but with two cats, we knew what we were getting into and made a committment to the humane society that we'd house them. After seeing way too many cats along the side of the road, I wonder what the appeal is to having an "outdoor only" pet. Sad.
(I am by no means an animal fanatic and far from being a member of PETA, but I take my pets very seriously and this just made no sense to me.)
I was wondering if that would happen with Rosie since you were keeping her outside. I hope a family takes her in and she doesn't have to live as a stray. I am sure all of you are upset with her running away.
Here where I live, cats need to be in as there are coyotes in the woods.
I don't have a cat but have a dog.
PS - I just told my cat your story and he said, "Um...what did they think was going to happen? SHE'S A CAT!"
I am sorry to hear about Rosie. I hope she comes back. She's a pretty cat though, so hopefully someone took her right in.
My spatulas all have a few 'distinguishing marks' not only is it good to not waste, it's hard to find good spatulas!
I like your new blog about Alexsey and have been reading. I cannot leave comments though. There is a certain blogger comment format that does not function for us. Must be due to our location? Very strange. Love that you found the photos!
I don't think cats should be kept outdoors....too many bad things can happen to them. Dogs/wild animals can attack them, cars can hit them, people can mess with them, etc. Poor Rosie.
I am so sorry to hear about Rosie, I had a kitten run away from home here on base and we have not found her, I do take comfort knowing someone here has given her a home and loves her just as much as we did.
Dennis's eye looks WONDERFUL!!! He sure looks like a fast healer PTL.
Good job on your diet...after this baby is born next month I plan to lose a few pounds....
Hi Christine!
I have to say that the surgery looks like it turned out pretty well for Dennis! I'm sure that you will post more about it after it has healed up more!
Sorry about the cat.. we have indoor/outdoor cats and have lost a few over the years to different circumstances. Hopefully, Rosie will be fine! :)
Take care - and congrats to Julia on raising so much for your trip - you should be very proud of her!
Hugs!
The granola looks SO yummy!! And where are the recipes for the granola and the cookies? Are you going to share? Hope so!!
I am so glad that Dennis is doing better - I will continue to pray for him!
Peace.
Our kids had the chicken pox when I was pregnant with Jack. Everyone in our house ended up with them except William.Even my poor husband who ended up very ill from it. (I had a severe case as a child so wasnt at risk according to my dr.) Our Dr said William didnt get them because he was around so much of it he built up a natural immnuity to it. I hope some of your kids do the same.
Our animals also live outside. Simply because I know the kids will happily go outside and play with them instead of being inside to play.
Congrats on the wieght loss.
I also wanted to ask if Dennis has gotten taller? he looks alot taller in the photo next to the green bike.
The spatula I use for everything has a bend in it it. It has been staightened out more times than I can count. Well, the other day I was informed that it was cracked in that bend. I used it until the whole end broke off!! LOL
So, your little chip is not so bad;)
Dennis looks great after his ordeal!

Ack, can`t believe all the posters who believe animals belong indoors. :S I was raised on a farm and unless an animal was in need of special attention, the animals (cats included!) were kept outdoors. I`ve never kept animals indoors and we haven`t had to deal with hair all over, "accidents" and other annoyances. I understand people who want indoor pets, but I don`t think being so judgmental is very helpful.
Dennis looks GREAT! His mouth in particular looks very different, I hope he`ll be able to put his lips together so he can start trying out all those words I`m sure he`s got stored up to tell you. :)
I'm so glad to hear that Dennis is doing well. I hope the cat is ok.
Hi Christine,
It's amazing to see Dennis progress in so many profound ways. Not just from the surgery but since you guys brought him home. You can tell just in his face the way he smiles and he's grown so much. I remember when we adopted Anna, David, and Bennett (almost 3 years ago - wow) our orphanage director told us that adoption was like taking a potted plant and putting in good soil in the earth. Even though the plant had all the right ingredients in the pot it just doesn't grow as well as it does in the earth. Dennis has really blossomed!!
Take care,
Barry Vaughn
Hi Christine. Anna DOES look taller to me too! Glad to know the medication is working.
By the way, I wanted to let you know that I have been praying more ever since I found your blog. I want to learn more about Christianity.
Take care!
Katie (who used to be prochoice, do you remember? :)
