He Wanted to Go Home

Thank you for all of your prayers. Dennis is home. Everything went well! This surgery only lasted two hours-- and our surgeon thinks it is time to give Dennis a nice break.

Up until he had some "sleepy juice" he was all smiles. What an incredible spirit Dennis has.

This time I got a picture of the nurse carrying him off to surgery. It was nice to see a familiar face. She was his OR nurse last time and when she saw that he was scheduled she requested to take care of him. This was comforting to hear... I knew he was in good hands.

The surgeon said that Dennis' skin graft that was under the sponge took 100%. He also said that his incisions look really good despite them being red. He promised to discuss ointments to help lessen scarring at his 2 week post- operative visit.

Dennis wanted to go home so bad that he kept giving the nurse his arm that had the IV indicating that he wanted her to take it out. Bless his little heart.
He loved the wagon ride to the car.

Now he is sleeping in the comfort of familiar surroundings---- where he calls home.
And I saved the bestest news for last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have been referred to an eye prosthetics specialist! Dennis is going to get an eye!

HURRAY!!!
I'm so happy for Dennis!
What a great surprise, that he will be able to get an "eye" ! Unfortunately, children in school tend to judge by appearances before getting to know the child inside. With Dennis' new look, he will have a better chance at enjoying school, which in turn will help him succeed academically :o)
I'm very happy for him!

I am sitting here covered with goosebumps after just reading your last sentence about the wonderful news that the surgeon gave you. What fantastic news for Dennnis, you and John.

Dennis sure is a trooper about how well he takes his surgeries in stride and how he bounces back so quickly.

Happy news for your family!

Hearing that Dennis is going to get a new eye actually made me tear up! I'm so happy for you all. The other night I watched a show where they detailed the process of making prosthetic eyes, and it is positively amazing to see how its all done. The end result is always beautiful!

Dear Christine,
Wow, he is amazing at trusting you despite the surgeries. Goes to show how much he has bonded...you've been such a great mom to him (and the rest of the family has helped)! I think, too, that his sweet spirit may be just what he needs in future, when he realizes that his burden is just a bit heavier than others. He could turn bitter, or he could become compassionate, and the resilience he is showing gives great promise for a young man who can grow blessings out of trials. Between his spirit, your care, and the surgeons' skill, he has such a bright future! Praise God.

I am curious what other procedures they plan for him. Seems like what may be left will be just touch-up work, but is the palate finished? It will be fun to see him start to be able to speak now that his mouth has such a better shape. He'll be talking back before you know it! Congratulations on another milestone for him! Sherry

Awesome report, Christine!!! So glad today went so well and I think Dennis has earned a break:) What a trooper he is. I am always amazed. I kind of thought this time he might be really scared going to the hospital since his other surgery was not very long ago, but there he was, ready for anything! What a blessing he is to all of us. Thanks for sharing him.

Oh Christine, Dennis looks wonderful! What a neat little boy. Looking at him tonight, I just realized how the transformation we are getting to see in him is much like what God does inside of us when we ask Him to "create in me a clean heart" He takes something He created that is now broken and restores it to something beyond our wildest imagining. How amazing!

Christine, My heart is just jumping for joy! My day started at 3:45 a.m. this morning with me on my knees begging God to be with Dennis today...praying that God would calm the hands of the doctors, and that Dennis would come thru this surgery with flying colors!!! And by the looks of the pics...God came thru AS ALWAYS!!! Thank you for letting us know who your sweet boy is doing. I will continue to be in prayer for him and the rest of you!

Isn't God good? I love it that the Lord arranged to have the familiar face of the nurse you knew, to turn your sweet baby over to. I'm thrilled too, for news of the new eye. My dear friend from childhood lost her eye as a toddler and had a prosthetic one. Growing up with her, I just knew that is how it is for some people. May Dennis have many true friends.
Thank you for letting us know how things went. I was thinking it may be a while before we heard any news.
Blessings on you and yours! Jen B

What a beautiful son you have! He was beautiful before the surgeries and will always remain beautiful. That smile just grabs at my heart each time I see it. He is one lucky little guy to have such a loving family AND your family is equally blessed to have such an amazing young man to share your lives with! Thank you, Christine, for sharing & opening your family to us. If you ever come to Oregon, it would be great to meet you!
