This morning, Jonny is feeling much better.... hopefully no one else gets sick. Dennis is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, March 4th. He has the sniffles, so please pray for him and Jonny to feel better.
Julia had her spelling bee this past Wednesday!

She spelled her first word BRAWL correctly.
She spelled her second word RELEVANT correctly.
She spelled her third word DUCTILE correctly.
She spelled her fourth word ALLITERATION correctly.
But she missed her fifth word CORPS pronounced core.
Isn't that terrific how far she got? She finished in 25th place out of 212 students all the way through eighth grade. We are so proud of her!
Speaking of proud, Adam applied for a scholarship and was chosen as a finalist! Even if he doesn't get it, the experience of filling out the application and writing the essay was great for us both! He is also preparing for 8th grade graduation and is choosing his classes for next year! Exciting stuff..... and the choices he is making is so much better than mine at his age. My son is growing up!
Speaking of growing, let me share how Anna's doctor visit went.

On February 25, Anna weighed 46.6 pounds and was 47 1/2 inches tall. I learned how to give her her first Nutropin AQ shot. It wasn't as scary as it sounds. She was brave.
My diet is going well. Yesterday marked a full week of dieting and my weight was 158 pounds which means that I lost 7 pounds in total! On to week two!
One day I made creamy mushroom soup.
Another day, I made stuffed mushroom caps.
Another day, I made stuffed mushroom caps.
Why all the mushrooms? They are low in carbs, are very flavorful, and are very versatile.
For added fiber, I sprinkled Flax seed meal which is very nutritious and has a nutty flavor.

Christine - You have me so motivated to get back to low-carbing....and my husband is scared. Scared, as in, he doesn't want to do without all the homemade muffins and stuff we have been eating lately. The only thing I dread is that this time around with low-carbing we won't be able to have all the butter, cream, and cheese (the good stuff) since we also have to eat gluten-free and dairy-free for our son. One of my favorites I used to make when low-carbing was steak with hollandaise sauce, served with asparagas and mashed cauliflower. Guess this time we will have to do without the hollandaise....Oh well, the more we cut out the healthier we'll be, right?? Pretty soon we'll be down eating only meat and veggies in our house. Anyhoo....Congratulations! Your weight loss is awesome and your meals always look spectacular!
Ok, you've done it again! The mushroom caps look delicious!! You'll have to share the recipe when things slow down.
I hope that everyone feels better soon and that Dennis sniffles will subside. Great job Julia on 25th place!!! Those were actually very hard words to spell and you did a wonderful job. It won't be long now until Anna catches up in height she's being very brave taking the shots everyday. Great Job too Christine for always learning new things and not being afraid to take on new challeneges such as learning how to give Anna a shot or how to care for Dennis after his difficult surgeries. Way to go!!! Love all the updates!
The dinner looks delicious but is that all you had? I'd still be hungry. You are a very inventive cook and make everything look so yummy.
That is great that the shots are going well and that it doesn't hurt her. I would freak out having to give a shot as I can't stand to even see a needle.
Poor Jonny. Let's hope today he is much better. Word of advice for a sore bum from the runs - Bag Balm. I swear by it for that purpose and for cracked fingers from winter's cold, hangnails or cuts and scrapes. It's sold in a green tin with a picture of a cow as it was originally for cows' utters. Someone told me how great the stuff is and I bought it. It's like a Vaseline petroleum jelly. It's good to have in the cupboard.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the bug doesn't spread through your house and especially to Dennis.
What is Adam applying for?
Julia did a fantastic job. I commented on her blog earlier this week.
I had to laugh looking at Annalyn in the background of the picture of you giving Anna the shot. I think she felt it more than Anna did. :)
If she ever wants to try to do her own shots, theres a thing called a pen, and you lay if flat on the skin and then at the sametime you push down, you also push the top of the pen like if you wanted the pen to come out so you could write. its really easy, small needle.
Aw, poor Jonny. Is he feeling better yet?
That shot of Annalyn in the background while Anna was getting her shot is so funny. She looks so much more nervous than either of you two!
Congrats to Julia, those are some seriously hard words! Good job.
And I`m with Tina, is that all you ate? No wonder you`re losing weight! Good job . . . I just don`t have the willpower to make it on a carb-less diet. Now, going raw . . . that`s something I can do. Toss the protein. lol
I was missing you! You are my first blog I read. I love hearing about your sweet children. I will pray for your sons, especially Dennis. March 4th is so close. And I pray that no one else gets sick.
And Julia? Way to go! She did very well! I am proud too. I was always in the county spelling bees and it can be very scary up there! Good job!
And I have and will continue to pray for Anna. My friends little girl is also named Anna that takes a treatment for growth. She is doing well!
Have a great weekend!
Sorry to hear you little guy is sick. We've all been ill here as well.
Hope Dennis stays well..no more sniffles.
Congrats Julia on your spelling bee

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Your place is great over here. That was awesome about Julia and her spelling bee. I would have missed that word too. I so love mushrooms...but noone else in the family likes them, so I am out of luck, but your entrees look delish. Good for you and the weight loss that is awesome!
I would love your mushroom soup and stuffed caps recipes... please do share!!!
I just LOVE mushrooms! They are versatile! Great job on the spelling bee! I was not a good speller when I was younger, but I am much improved now. :)
Congrats to Julia. And I hope that Jonny feels better soon and that Dennis will be better for his surgery. Good luck next week with that coming up. I will be praying for you all.
Also, I agree with the others that you are going to have to post the recipes, they look so good!
Congrats on your weight loss so far. I'm a carb addict..so, you go girl. That picture of Anna getting her shot was hysterica with her sister in the background..very cute.
I know you are so proud of all of your kids. They are amazing children.
did you get my email the other day? I responded about the dish cloths. Have a great weekend Christine...and good luck Wednesday. I will be praying for Dennis and Jonny..hugs
Oh my lots of news and lots of great looking food!
I sure hope Johnny is feeling better poor guy.
Congrats Julia on a job well done!
Corps is a tricky one.
Christine, I am already praying for you and your family as you prepare for Dennis's surgery. This is huge. It is going to take alot out of you emotionally and physically.
I wish I could be there with you, but know I'll be there in spirit. :)
My husband loves making stuffed mushrooms. Yours looks a lot like his does. :)
The children are doing great and I hope Jonny is feeling much better. Poor little guy.
Hoping Jonny and Dennis don't share their "stuff" with any of the others in the family. Glad Jonny is feeling a bit better. Good job with the shot, they aren't difficult, but it's never nice to have to do things that may cause our children pain/discomfort. Great going with the diet, I wish I could motivate myself....maybe soon.
I'd like to order two dish clothes in cotton from Julia. Any color. I didn't see a button to pay with. Sorry, can you direct me, I'm probably looking right at it!

Thanks,
Christy

Christine. I've been away from the computer for months and have finally got back to it and spent a few hours catching up. It's great to hear all that's going on in your family. Amazing news that you're adopting another little boy! I look forward to getting to know him when he comes home. Best of luck with Dennis' surgery this week. I'll be staying in tune with all your family news, reading with interest
I pop in every now and then to see how your lives are going, I have a Button for Dennis on my blog page, so I hope lots of people get to know you and all the wonderful family.
I will be praying extra hard for Dennis for his surgery this Wednesday the 4th.
Bless you all

I don't think I could give one of my kids (or myself) a shot! Yikes! Julie = HUGE WIMP! *lol*
Hope the boys are feeling better!

Christine-- Thank you for the congrats on my blog. Very much appreciated. You have great shot-giving technique.. a quick learner you are!
Your low-carb food looks delicious. When I have low-carbed in the past, my food was absolute crap. I'm inspired!
I'm hoping and praying that the GH helps Anna out. I'm sure you'll get great results.
