Julia was in the spelling bee last week and got 2nd place! She is going on to the county finals! Yeah-- Julia!

Awww, look how cute. Dennis is doing me a favor.

Can you say fistula?
Dennis has a fistula (a hole in his palate) that connects to the hole by his eye. The doctor told me Dennis had this as soon as he did his surgery. It will not be corrected until he is older. Meanwhile, whenever he eats there is a chance that some of it will leak out of his hole. On this day it looked like he was crying graham crackers and milk!
Today for Super Bowl I had the kids help me with lunch.

I have learned so much from you on how to include the children in meal time prep and other normal household activities. Thank you for sharing and ministering to my heart.
Congratulations, Julia! What an awesome achievement.
We had nachos last night. I had fun teaching my 5yo daughter how to cook the meat and cheese! One question - how do carrots fit in with nachos?
I don't know if I have ever mentioned this but my youngest son is having real eating issues and we had to place a feeding tube in him. One thing my doctor recommended was to make him a part of making meals. So if we are having french bread, he will place it on the cooking sheet and I even have him help out with the butter. If I make a casserole, he helps spread the grated cheese....
I love looking at your pics of the kids helping out with meals.
Tell Julia congrats on her spelling bee. That is awesome!!!
What a busy time at the Reeds. My boys would sit with headphones on like that for ages too.
So..I'm still stuck on the 99 cent store fruit. We dont have discoint food anywhere where I live. I understand 99 cent food, like dented cans, and hamburger helper. But, how can fuit be that cheap. What is the difference between that fruit and the fruit at walmart? I don't understand how they can sell it so cheap? Is it odd shaped?
There was a Superbowl? Wow.. (one of the bennies of being overseas and unplugged! no network TV! Whoop!)
Those nachos look great, as do all goodies. You have a houseload of great helpers.
Congrats JULIA!!!
Graham crackers & milk escaping through a fistula sounds uncomfortable. Maybe a bit like when you accidentlally snort food up into your nose and he is still smiling. What a great kid!
What talented girls too! Wow spelling and nacho cooking.
I congratulated Julie on her blog. That is so awesome for her. Good luck for the next round.
The nachos look very good.
Mmmm nachos...
great pictures.
Yay to all of them. It looks like they are all doing well.

great photos! :) I always love to see your pictures from everyday activities...thanks for sharing all those nice moments with us :)
We attended a gathering of friends. All us girls sat in the kitchen and talked and listened to the guys yell and cheer. Then we all gathered during the commercials hoping to see the Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head commercial just one more time. LOL
(I loved the angry eyes)
We girls were thinking about yelling into the other room, "How many baskets have they scored, or did they hit a home run yet?" Just to get a reaction, but we with held ourselves.... :)
Great Pics.
Question: Is Dennis prone to infection because of the fistuala?
Are they not going to fix this during his surgery in March?
Is that fistula uncomfortable? I suddenly related it to that bad feeling of having something go up (or down) the "wrong tube". Does he seem uncomfortable?
When I ask my six year-old daughter to put her toys away, she says, "I can't." And your five year-old son is helping to prepare dinner!
(By the way, the Cardinals didn't win.)
Dear Christine,
Would you mind sharing your recipe for your oatmeal blueberry coffee cake? I'd love to make if for my fiancé, since he doesn't eat a lot of fruits 'n veggies, but I know he'd love this!
Kind regards,
Sonia
Hi Christine! I just caught up on your recent posts. Thanks for sharing your life. It's so encouraging to read how the girls are trusting and bonded with you more and more.
Love seeing the kitchen helper pictures. My girls have been peeling (carrots, potatoes), grating (cheese, veggies), and slicing (soft things -- cucumbers, onions, cheese) for a few years now. With supervision, of course. I learned to take advantage of the interest as it happens or you may never get them back. ;) They love to help with dinner nightly and make their own lunches (on the weekends). I just have to plan out enough time to allow them to help me, which isn't always my strong point. But I do love having help in the kitchen!
Great job on the spelling bee Julia! I am a stickler for spelling. I hope you do well in the finals!
The coffee cake looks yummy. I'd love the recipe. :)
We LOVE jigsaw puzzles! We got a few for Christmas that we've yet to break out of their boxes. Once I get my house in order, that's the first thing I have planned for my "fun" to do list.
Those nachos sure look yummy!
The steelers won.

Christine, I am the SAME way with puzzles. I am OCD when it comes to a jigsaw puzzle and therefore can't even start one. When I've got one going I don't even get to bed until 3am and then when I'm awake, nothing else gets done. It's really bad. It's to bad it's such a no-brainer type of habit, LOL. I'd be a genius by now if I could gain some smarts out of them.
Congratulations to Julia! You go, girl!
Crying graham crackers and milk? That is too cute. Do you have to be concerned about infection? I think that would worry me.
