Anna is going to get GHT!!!!

I am jumping up and down!!!!

Awesome news came in the mail today. If you remember correctly, back in November I found out that the Growth Hormone Therapy that Anna was approved for was going to cost around $520 a month. I basically closed the door on the idea, and said I hoped that God would open a new one. Then in December, I applied for a grant through a non-profit foundation. All this time went by with obstacle after obstacle with us being told we would not qualify. For kicks, I asked why and when they gave their answer I knew there was some mix up. I asked them to please check into our file one more time before closing our case---- which they did. And today I got a letter stating that we were approved for a $5000 grant for one year which we can reapply for each year there after that she needs to stay on the medicine.

Praise God!!!!! Please pray with me that the GHT will help her grow!

WOO HOO, My son got those shots, for a while we did the ones every day then we later changed to once a week shots. then later after that, he was a bit older and didnt want shots anymore. I was just glad he grew about a foot and was/is now 5.3 which is fine, better than 4 and a half feet, although he would have been cute ontop of a wedding cake. hehe

Whoo-hoo!!! Congrats, Anna!!!

GHT is by injection, correct? Is Anna on board for it, or is she nervous?

Congratulations, Christine, for asking "WHY?" I cannot even # the times I find favor with the right person by digging a little deeper or asking a question of the right person. I would imagine you have had the same experience.

that's awesome - God totally opened that door for your family!

is Anna suffering any ill effects of not growing? i know she's unusually small... but is she otherwise healthy, or is being so small causing health problems for her?

I am so happy for you. Ben had his 6 montyh check up yesterday & he's grown almost 3 inches in 7 months compared to 1/2 an inch in the 9 months prior to GH therapy. You should join the yahoo Magic group if you haven't already, they are a great support for any questions you have about the injections. Good luck!!!!

Thank goodness she is getting this treatment as it would have seriously altered her life not to have the shots. You stuck to your guns and your diligence paid off. She's lucky to have such a determined mom. Let's hope that the treatment works well for her.

My daughter started GHT when she was in 1st grade. Humatrope was our drs recomendation. It worked GREAT and she finished her treatment just prior to 7th grade. She did wonderful. She is 5'7 compared to her sister(no ght)5'6. I remember quite well the struggle with the cost of the drug, but God is so awesome and always pulled us through!

That's great!! My son Nikolai was on this and it helped quite a bit!! Then, our insurance changed its policies and denied the $2000/mo. that it cost. But he got it for awhile and it did help him a lot. Congrats to Anna!! :o)

Will she do a needle injection each day or an air injection, or something different? Nik did both the needle (only hurt a tiny bit) and the air (didn't hurt at all).

Thats great news for Anna.. She deserves it and is a beautiful girl. May she reach for the moon one say and if she "isn't tall enough" then she can mingle with the stars..

Good luck on the treatment!

If I may ask how tall is she?

This is so great! And Anna is really a beautiful young lady. My young niece saw her picture on the screen and asked if she was a model. I had to smile and told Mackenzie that she was - a model to us all as one of God's beautiful children. Mackenzie grinned back and ran to tell her Uncle that when she grew up she was going to be a model just like Anna! It was really cute.

p.s. Love your new blog header. :)

Thanks! I am going to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan with a family that I normally babysit for twice a week. They have a vacation home up there and are flying me up there to be their nanny for a month and a half. I've never been further from Hawaii than California, so this should be interesting. :-)

If you don't mind me asking:
What led you to the conclussion that she need GHT? I was just wondering. My daughter is small for her age but I didn't know if there was a age/height chart or if she has a medical condition that she suffers from where she needs them for a reason other than just her size. How tall is she?

Hi Christine, this is Great News!

If you don't mind, can you answer the following questions on an upcoming Digest?

How tall do the doctors estimate she would grow without GHT?

Is there an estimate of how tall she could grow with GHT?

Sandy said...

Christine-
Would you mind telling us how you determined Anna needed GHT? We adopted 4 children from Ukraine in 2004 when they were 4,5,6 and 7. Now, the two oldest are small to average height, but the two youngest are really small for their age. Did you investigate this on your own, or did the ped. suggest it?

that is more than a blessing that is a gift from god!

A little off-topic, but I wanted this to reach as many folks as possible. Reece's Rainbow has just changed Marina's status to "imminent danger of being transferred". Would anyone who's considering adopting a little girl with DS (from Ukraine) please help her? The need is urgent -

Little Marina, who turned four in December, was my "Christmas child". She is a cutie - healthy, happy, high-functioning, ambulatory, feeds herself, tries to dress herself, responsive, pretty, well-cared for, and with all kinds of potential and a good-sized grant from Reece's Rainbow for assistance to adoptive parents.

Please don't let this darling child be sent to Torez...I am single and have "aged out", re Ukrainian standards, or I'd go for her myself...

Best wishes,

p.s. Thanks, Christine, for letting this message be added to your blog...

Oh my goodness, that is great! My sister has been trying to gather information regarding GHT. The doctors want her to start my nephew on it.
I would love to tell her about options for grants, money is a concern for them too.
God is so good and He will provide!
I pray Anna does well and that the treatment goes well.
