"Albertine"
I am sitting still
I think of Angelique
her mothers voice over me
And the bullets in the wall where it fell silent
And on a thousandth hill, I think of Albertine
there in her eyes what I don't see with my own
Rwanda
[CHORUS]
now that I have seen, I am responsible
Faith without deeds is dead
now that I have held you in my own arms, I cannot let go till you are
I am on a plane across a distant sea
But I carry you in me
and the dust on, the dust on, the dust on my feet
Rwanda
[CHORUS]
[BRIGDE]
I will tell the world, I will tell them where I've been
I will keep my word
I will tell them Albertine
[CHORUS]
I am on a stage, a thousand eyes on me
I will tell them, Albertine
I will tell them, Albertine

As a New Zealander I have listened to this Brooke Fraser song many times. Today I made the effort to watch her video on YouTube and finally heard what she was saying. Thank you.

love it... reminds me of Sara Groves' song "I saw what I saw"
Just like Anonymous, I am also a New Zealand who is a fan of Brooke Fraser. I was listening to Albertine (the whole album) on my iPod this morning actually!
These words definitely have a lot of truth to them.
My favorite line is "now that I have seen, I am responsible". I feel responsible for what I now know and know there is another child waiting for us too!
This song brings tears to my eyes! I first heard it a year ago at the church I was attending, a woman performed it and she did amazing, drove the point home. You could tell she was passionate about the message the song was portraying! Shortly after that I started sponsoring a child from Rwanda (I was looking for a child from Kenya but, God place this little girl on my heart).
We have been blessed to have a number of refugees from Rwanda and Burundi in our parish.... We also had Immaculee Ilibagiza, the author of the book "Left to Tell" come speak about the genocide. Actually, though the book is about that, it is also about her life, her family and how she lived. For me that was one of the best things...you hear about these awful things, but can't quite understand the setting or the people. This is a wonderful book, easy to read and so inspirational.
Beautiful and touching. Thank you for sharing.
So true
I love it.
Hi Christine. I have a question for you....I looked at the little girl, Marina, and fell in love....then I scrolled through, and I cannot describe how I want to adopt one of these little girls...there are not alot of people in this world that would understand that one could have 16 children, and still have love for more. (My husband got a bonus from work recently, and asked me what we should do with the money...my mind answered before I even comprehended the thoughts: adopt a child from the Ukraine...) anyway, in your opinion, would we even be considered/or approved for adoption with so many children? We have 15 at home....It seems like something that just won't leave my thoughts....your imput would be very helpful to me...if you get a chance, email me at dellamom@yahoo.com
thanks so much!

Aha, U-tube to get the melody, that works for me. [however I recently had a nasty scare with U-tube and the children so I'm trying to be a little more circumspect.]
Cheers
