If you haven't noticed, I didn't blog about Inauguration Day. After reading numerous blogs about the event, I felt that
Martha's blog was
worth mentioning in place of me having to blog about it. And don't get me started about the whole
Freedom of Choice Act------- making abortions more accessible and convenient not to mention fostering a society that not only looks the other way, but supports it, is just plain wrong.

I refused to read the newspaper that day or watch TV. I simply don't know what to say. I have seen where people think racism will be better. Well.... I live in the deep South and see reverse racism. I have had to listen to people say "now he will put the white people in slavery and that is the mild things they are saying. Racism from the black community is so bad here that I would never adopt a black child because I would fear for his/her safety from the black community.
I will not even begin on the fact that he believes in murdering babies.
I am in total agreement with you on the FOCA- it is terrifying!

I cant' really comment..I don't know much about FOCA..I dont' follow American politics
..
I think though, he is going to do his best to be a good president.
Can't judge him by just one thing
Thanks for your post! I didn't watch TV at all yesterday. I get most of my news from the internet anyway...with a bit less of the breathless fawning commentary. Personally, I'm heartbroken over FOCA. It's a step backward for our nation and civilization. However, no government regulation will ever change or heal a heart. It's our job to point people to Christ for that!
From what I understand about the past history of his voting in the senate...there was a prior law in the state of Illinois about the abortion of babies already in place and the new law was adding on additional things. He didn't vote for it because there was already a law in place about the protection of babies and he didn't want to pass along the other issues that were attached to the new law. Not sure on this, as I tried to research it earlier in the election, but I really feel that he will do our country a lot of good. Sending lot of prayers for our country, the president and his family.
What makes our country so wonderful is our freedom. We all can live among one another although we all don't share the same views.
I can't stomach the thought of the FOCA.
I had to sign something yesterday so that my child could sell his old video games to a store.
If this thing passes, my daughter could get an abortion without a second thought. No wait time, no parent's permission....nothing.
Because the baby inside of her would be "nothing" to some people.
It is unwanted, so it is nothing.
I admit that this has tainted my feelings towards Obama.
I have a hard time celebrating his presidency with this looming in the near future.
I really enjoyed her blog I have been having the same feelings.
I am glad to live in a free country, were I do not support abortion in anyway, Unfounaratly it is a big issue. But that is one thing. There is always something you wont agree with someone on. Our country has been headed in a downwards sprial for a while time for a change!
FOCA? There really are no words to describe my disgust with this bill. Praying hard for it never to be signed into law.
I think we need to stop labeling our presidents as angels or demons on this issue. Our presidents like the majority of America are typically moderate in beliefs about abortion. Yet they will seek support from particular groups to gain votes. Thats whats become of this issue- it's simply become political rhetoric. No matter who you talk to, they all agree that women who wish to continue the pregnancy should be supported. No one except extreme wackos want to abort babies against a mom's wish. It's sad because if the two sides worked together with all the moderates in this country to support alternatives to abortions, THEN we save a lot lives. Until then, it's just the usual quibbling with little accomplished.
Do "pro-life" people here honestly believe that Bush era accomplished so much for you? And while you can say "its better than nothing", keep in mind that abortion is readily accessible to any woman who wants it period. On top of that, how many people have died due to Bush's "pro-war" position? How many have been tortured? How many have been killed via capital punishment? I havent seen a whole lot of support for life.
It's time to see what Obama is going to do, but on the issue of abortion Im going to guess there will not be a lot of change either. Im personally hopeful that simply having him as president may significantly change race relations in this country. What a great thing that could be.
So this is where all the traffic came from. :) I am bewildered no longer. (Although the awe of the man does bewilder me somewhat...)
I believe OBAMA will do great things for the US, as a pp said i doubt he will make much different on the abortion issues, abortion is legal and has been legal for while, personally I choose to protect the lives of the living, our soldiers in war, or our individuals with disabilities and our children in foster care.
Does anyone has a link for what the actual bill is about, i can't find anything that is not pro-life, and even reading on those sites it's clearly not as terrifying as the statements they claim in the front page, like the thing of partial birth abortion, if indeed the bill is removing the ban on abortions after viability this does not equal making partial birth abortions legal, there are other ways to get the babies out of a mothers womb, and there are some state laws that say if the mother decides to abort after viability it should be done in a way that increases the chances of the baby surviving, but we cannot force a woman to stay pregnant if she doesn't want to.
I didn't follow along with the whole inauguration thing. There was enough of a cult-like following that day! But going back to my reason for being less than ecstatic on inauguration day. Let's see, Obama has socialist views and supports FOCA (completely immoral Act) and he is racist. In a country in which a black man was elected president, he is STILL talking about race. And for all those who think his election will improve race relations, I've got a news flash: there exists reverse discrimination. I heard one black student telling another that her mom voted for Obama just because he's black.

So, I wouldn’t agree with Obama on everything, far from that, but I actually think that he will make a good president. Now, about the abortions, I really don’t like the thought of that. BUT, I have been thinking, and really, when you think about it, he has gotten to know a place (from his father’s side) where THREE HUNDRED newborn babies are left to die EACH DAY because nobody wants them or can take care of them. Maybe he feels that it would be much more painless and peaceful to “let them go” this way. Of course, not near that many babies are left in the USA, but maybe he still feels that the mothers should be able to make that choice if they know they don’t want or can’t take care of the babies. I personally think abortion is very scary, and I wouldn’t do it, but I couldn’t ever judge a woman that decides to do this. But if I had lived somewhere knowing that hundreds of babies were dying all around me each day, I would probably see this from whole another view!
I didn't watch the pomp and circumstance, but I did hear about Rick Warren's prayer (You go boy!) and the other racist prayer that white will see right...what was that all about?
This is a wake up call to all Christians. While I don't think Obama is even close to the antiChrist, I see a lot of similarities in how the antiChrist will come to power...with a silver tongue. And even when lies are put out in the open, people will be blinded.
Obviously I didn't vote for Obama, but I choose to respect him as our president. Paul tells us in Romans that God places everyone in authority over us for a reason. And if we disrespect those in power over us, we are disrespecting God. Not something I want to do! (I've found all the comments on this site to be respectful thus far...and because of that I'm very appreciative. It's one thing to disagree, and another to name call or be rude.)
Look at Pharoah. God used his hardened heart to show the Egyptians who the one true God is, and free the Israelites (as well as some Egyptians) from slavery. God will use Obama...maybe even to wake us all up.
I don't think Obama wants to purposely destroy the nation or will purposely lead us in to more immorality. I don't think he really knows God, which means he doesn't understand what is immoral and because of that we all need to pray like we've never prayed before.
We also need to pray for those who have been so horrible to Bush. I don't agree with everything he did or didn't do in office, but the way he has been and is being treated is shameful and embarassing. My heart goes out to him and his family. I've experienced some of this name calling and disrespect because I voted for Bush both times and McCain in this past election. Our country is becoming more and more socialist...I am no longer allowed to have a conservative view without a harsh reaction from someone who disagrees with me. Most of the time I just keep my mouth shut and walk away for my own personal safety. Sad, huh?
Sorry, I thought Rick Warren's prayer was devisive and I therefore tuned-out shortly after he started. The old black guy's prayer was embarassing. Both seemed aimed for their narrowly defined audience. I tend to think the second anonymous was pretty right-on about the politics of the abortion issue. If you are running as a conservative you must be strictly anti-abortion and if as a liberal you must run pro-choice to maintain support of your respective constituents. The legislature has more say-so than the president on the abortion issue. So anti Obama/Hilary people can rejoice in their absence from the Senate. Okay< I guess I'll duck my head now.
For those of you who are interested in knowing what FOCA says, without the rhetoric of either the pro-life or pro-choice's biased interpretations, here it is verbatim http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.2020:
PROHIBITION OF INTERFERENCE- A government may not--
(1) deny or interfere with a woman's right to choose--
(A) to bear a child;
(B) to terminate a pregnancy prior to viability; or
(C) to terminate a pregnancy after viability where termination is necessary to protect the life or health of the woman; or
(2) discriminate against the exercise of the rights set forth in paragraph (1) in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.
This is the pertinent section.
These concerns about "reverse racism" are so bewildering to me. Are white people that scared of black people? That's all it sounds like. Of course you will hear anti-white comments from some frustrated (and now empowered!) blacks, but that's not the same as systemic racism. You cant take the comments of some and apply them to all. By becoming president, Obama represents a powerful message that race does not need to be a barrier any longer in America, that we should be proud of the being part of the colorful "patchwork" of American society. This is "racist speech"??? Well then MLK Jr was racist too for talking about his dream for America. Lord forbid we talk about our wanting America to move beyond conflict and feel blessed by our diversity. This is a good message for all of us, people.
mmmmmmmmmmm........ok, lets judge him on one policy....like we judge those scared and lonely women who have abortions...bad people! Imagine...not having another way to turn....chu! Oooooh I love to JUDGE!
I have never had an abortion...nor would I.
That said, I firmly believe in a woman's right to choose..period.
I dont understand how one can be anti choice...yet support an illegal war where thousands are being killed...hundreds of thousands maimed and/or displaced. Where a huge segment of the population in the urban centres go to bed hungry...or have no bed to call their own. Where 46% of Americans do not have health insurance...where the death penalty is still ok.
Where oh where is the culture of life in that?
I am sorry if this comes across harsh...its just that some of it sounds very tinny to my ears. If one is concerned with the unborn, then surely you are also concerned with those who are alive but suffering and dying...often in the name of religion?
Laurie
FOCA has tons of loopholes. The top three that bother me most are that a woman since age is not defined, includes any female that happens to get pregnant including a thirteen year old girl, the health of a woman can include her "mental" health meaning that if the "mere" idea of being pregnant will depress her, than it is okay to abort, and the viability of a baby can be left to the judgement of the physician because "heck" even full term babies die at birth.
Laurie, if you went back and read my blog you would know my heart-- I do not need to explain or defend further about the homeless, or the starving. My heart aches for them too. As far as being against the killing of a life (because that is exactly what abortion is), who else is going to defend these defensiveless, precious babies?
Thanks for all of your comments. I hope we can continue to disagree respectively.
My point about abortion is that, legal or not, it still takes place. Scared women, both educated and uneducated, christian and non-christian, have gone to great lengths in the past to end unwanted pregnancies. These women were forced into back alleys, in unsanitary conditions to get a blackmarket abortion, and many ended up severely injured, and sick, or even dead because of it.
Making abortion legal makes it safe, so that the tragedy of losing the unborn life no longer has to be tainted by the tragedy of also losing the mother. Making it possible for all women, regardless of age to procure an abortion legally, and anonymously allows women to protect themselves from the possibility of retribution or punishment from angry spouses, parents, friends or family.
All of that being said, I do strongly disagree with abortion, and would never get one. I do agree that it is the murder of an unborn child, and therefore wrong. However, I AM saying that I do see the logic in the action taken by the government in making abortion legal. They have to respect the fact that some women refuse to see the real horror which abortion is, and we can only hope that by educating girls about the other options, we will be able to save some of those unborn lives.
I hope none of this was stated in a harsh, or rude way, and I apologize if I have offended anybody, because this was definitely not my intention.
In Canada the abortion law was struck down in 1988- There is
no abortion law and they are publicly founded- most doctors
will refuse to do a 3rd trimester
abortion.
There is very little discussion
about the issue. If you want one
go to your doctor-
What are the abortion laws in the
USA and how do they want to change
them?
I can't get past the fact that he's going to pass the FOCA bill. I keep giving it to God, but man, oh man, I then turn around and take it back!
I am seriously praying for our country and for the man that the people have chosen to lead it.
