I Think He is Feeling Better

Here is Dennis with his "say cheese" face. Poor little guy had such a red, chapped face from rubbing his eye. You can see how crusty and irritated his eye was and why I felt the need to take him in when he was also running a fever.

You can see how sore his finger looks from rubbing his eye. I am guessing that the salty tears is what makes his cheek and finger so red and chapped.

He was happy waiting in the doctor's office until the doctor came in. He was not a happy camper then.

The doctor suggested using Aveeno on his skin instead of other baby soap and rubbing plain old Vaseline on his cheek and finger.
Just out of the bath! He is my sweet smelling cuddlebug!

I love aveeno! It works really well for my Dry skin that I get from working in the chlorine water all week. Children's hospital told my friend to use Lanisoh on her sons chapped lips and cheek, it's originally made for breast feeding moms who are chapped/dry/cracked.

I really like that last picture of Dennis, so cute! I will be praying for his surgery!

Look at his fat little fingers. He's filled out very well since coming home. His poor red cheeks and finger. Hope the Aveno works. I swear by Bag Balm (made originally for cow utters). It comes in a green tin with clover and a cow on it and you can buy it in a drug store. Our hardware store also sells it. It works so well for dry, cracks on my thumbs that I get from the dry, cold weather in the winter. You would not want to use it if he were going to rub his eye though.

How is your mother?

I know, everyone has a better idea to help out so here is my two cents.....My son's allergy doctor has me use Vanicreme. Carson has severe eczema and this is the ONLY lotion and soap he uses. I have noticed a big difference. You can only order it online at www.vanicreme.com and it isn't really any more expensive as regular brands found in the stores.

I will say a prayer that he starts feeling better. I sure hate to see our babies uncomfortable.

Aquaphor works the best for my little girl

Bag balm is good too but very thick and sticky

A lot of people like products with shea butter in them

For me Vasaline is too thin and wears off too soon.

Oh poor little guy.. He doesn't have an infection does he? I hope that he will be okay for the surgery coming up too.. He is a cute little guy.. Kristina I want to ask you a question and I must have not read it on your blog but I was wondering was Dennis born like that? (I'm not meaning to sound rude one bit just wondering.)He is such a joy to your family I can feel it from here and his spirit is amazing.. What a special little guy he is.. You know everyone always says that Braxton is so lucky that we have him but they really don't know we are the lucky ones to have him.. Adoption is such an amazing journey.. I love to read your blog...

I also recommend Aquafor over vaseline. Valerie has battled skin irritation issues since she's been home. Aquafor is expensive but very worth it! It comes in a big jar at the drug store near the lotions and vaselines. So glad he is feeling better and the surgery is still scheduled!

We all lotion up in the winter. Those cold breezes can be tough. Hope the lotion works.

Awww, I hope he continues to feel better. Did everyone notice the adorable little crossed ankles while he is sitting playing at the table waiting for the doctor??? How adorable!

I am happy he is feeling better.
I wanted to ask you a question in regards to soap in the mouth. I used this on my 2 bio kids growing up but not with our adopted daughter. When we picked her up from the orphanage and I gave her her first bath with us she screamed and cried and covered her mouth when she seen the bar of soap. Obviously it was used as a form of punishment. She was so afraid of soap. Now she still closes her mouth tight when I bather her she doesn't trust me 100%. My question is this should I use the soap when she lies or says a bad word or something else. Someone even suggest Hot Sauce and I am NOT doing that. What is your thought on this?

Thank you and God Bless you for your Patience.

"Tina in CT"- also known as "utter-butter"! (LOL) I can't stand the smell of that stuff though!

I'm agreeing with someone else on here. Our dermatologist always recommends Aquaphor. It even works on diaper rash and chapped lips. I put it on my feet before bed. A little goes a long way and it absorbs bettter than Vaseline.

Poor guy! His chapped skin makes me hurt :(
My little guy Will gets majorally chapped cheeks ALL the time (because of his sensory issues, he is constantly rubbing his hands in his mouth and all over his face) Anyway, my ped suggested we use Bag Balm. It is vaseline based, but has medication as well. Maybe you could try it for his finger. Not sure i would want it near his eye.(I think they sell it at Target)
Poor guy! Hope his heals quickly.

I am so glad to hear that everything is still a go for Thursday. I know that is a big relief.

So, my 2 cents...I don't have kiddos, so this suggestions has not been kid tested. Alright, now that I've given my disclaimer :) In the winter, I get really, really dry, chapped skin like that. At night, I put Vasoline on my hands and then microwave a pair of mittens/gloves just for a couple of minutes (to get warm) and then slide them on. Then, leave them on for a while and this will help the Vasoline absorb in like a deep-skin treatment. Works like a charm. Can do the same thing for your feet with some warm socks. Not sure if he can stand to have mittens on...maybe before he goes to sleep?

Hope he continues to feel better and that your mom is doing well in her recovery.

What a cutie! I think he knows it, too, from that adorable look on his face. :) Hope the cream works for that chapping, it looks quite uncomfortable.

Bag Balm is like vaseline, but it has something in it the heals cows udders, I KNOW, but it's ok for people, lol. Whenever I put it on an irritated skin area on myself or any of the kids, it's all but gone in one or two days. It's in a green square tin and is found near the pet products in Walmart. You can read the ingredients and share it with your pedicatrician if you want, but really, I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't safe. Just my two cents worth.

LOL, I'm just reading the comments and I see Tina in CT already recommended it, sorry for the repeat.
