We had her favorite pizza with Ranch dressing and jalapenos. We also had borscht...... oh, and soda. Lots of soda!
After dinner, Rachel opened presents.

Adam and Caleb got Rachel this cute little Curious George monkey. She loved it and has since made it a girl by piercing its ears.

Rachel's absolute favorite candy is Jelly Belly's so we got her the biggest container of them that I could find----- Costco size!

Isn't her smile just beautiful? Since she is too old for a traditional birthday hat now, I stuck holly into her ponytail.

When I asked Rachel what kind of cake she wanted, she said an ice-cream cake. So, that is what I attempted to make her--- although the finished product was so scary that Andrew was afraid to try a piece until he saw everyone else eating it. Oh well, I tried, and Rachel knew how much work I put into it. But hey, you live and learn, and I already know how I can make a better one next time.

She blew out all the candles in one breath. I wonder what she wished for?
One new privilege that you get to enjoy once you are a teenager, is that you are allowed one soda a day. Well, that actually starts for her in three days.
Happy Birthday Rachel! We can't wait to celebrate the next 13 years with you too! Please go visit her blog and wish her a happy birthday!

Happy birthday! She looks so happy! I love the holly in her hair idea... I might steal that. :) If anyone can survive two teenagers, it's you. :)

Well I hope she has a wonderful day. I guess with so many of you in your family it feels like someone is celebrating a birthday every week?
Good luck with another teenager. Cody turns 13 on Dec 26th and I will have two in my house as well.
She is a beautiful girl! I am so glad she has you and John as parents. Happy birthday to a precious one!
How exciting! Happy Birthday!
Love those Jelly Belly's. My family lives near the Jelly Belly factory in California, and I am home for Christmas. I love getting "belly flops"..rejects..they can come in weird shapes. Anyways, Happy Birthday Rachel.
Happy Birthday to Rachel! My oldest girl just turned 13 on Friday.
Birthdays are my favorite holidays :-) Happy Birthday Rachel! We love you!
I hate cake. All cake. But, I LOVE brownies and ice cream. One year my Mom made two batches of brownies and let them cool. Then she spread mint chocolate chip ice cream over one batch (un-cut) and put the other batch on top. She put it in the freezer until read. I'm sure it would be good with vanilla, or other flavors of ice cream too! It might be worth a try in the future! Yum! My mouth waters just thinking about it!!! I'm off to wish Rachel a happy birthday!

Aww. She is just beautiful. That smile says it all.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Ahhh, I just love this age. 13 is so fun. A young lady emerging from a child. She really is a beautiful girl. And the Love you have shared with her just shines all over her.
One of the joys of parenting is seeing your children become happy productive teenagers getting ready for adulthood. The horror stories you hear about, :just wait until they are teenagers," are just NOT TRUE. :)
Happy Birthday, Rachel! That big jar of Jelly Bellys makes a great gift!
I have a great recipe for a simple ice cream cake homemade.
*one large box of ice cream sandwiches.
*one large aluminum pan lined with plastic wrap up the sides
*cool whip topping
Spread a layer of cool whip in the bottom of the pan layer in the sandwiches cool whip in between. Then put into the freezer. Flip over onto a platter and ease out using the plastic wrap.
Happy Birthday,
Joy
