Today we spent the day at our new friend's house out in the country. Remember, the story about William and the llama--- well it is the same family. Jumping ahead--- funny how I didn't even see it coming, but this family has become like our closest friends ever since they invited us to a bible study. They are such a blessing to us........ I am thankful that they reached out to us that first time over two months ago.
Anyway, we went to their house to pick-up walnuts----- at 30 cents a pound it was not a bad way to spend the day with the kids outdoors with friends in the beautiful sunshine.
In the field where all the walnuts were, there was also lots of animals.
I think all of us enjoyed chasing those poor geese, even John and I got in on the action! There is this one duck among all the geese------ I thought it must be having an identity crisis!

This llama wouldn't let us touch it..... probably still offended from the time William yelled at him.
The kids were ready to cash in their walnuts------ we thought it would be a good incentive for them to come back for a second round after they saw the cash that they had earned.

Rachel and I picked two big bags of pomegranates to take home. They won't go to waste at our house.

Here we are unloading the walnuts.

Each child had their own bag.
While most of us picked up walnuts, William picked up sticks with the promise of a bonfire later. He is dare I call it "obsessed" with fire, something we are working on, so this was a real treat for him.

We actually stayed for dinner after the walnut picking----- Costco pizza and a veggie tray. All in all, it was a really nice way to spend our Saturday with a family that has become one of our favorite families to hang around with.

What a beautiful day. Your family is so inspiring. 300 walnuts!! I imagine several arms were hurting if not a few backs!!
It looks and sounds like so much fun! How nice to spend a day like that together!
Are you going to post the answers to the "who's eye is this?" poll?
I was shocked at all the big bags of walnuts. Did you bring a lot home? I'm jealous about the pomagranates. I hardly ever buy one as they are so expensive here in New England. What a mess to open and seed them all.
Sounds like you had a fun day with your friends.
Sounds like you are blessed with wonderful friends :-) Glad you had a good time out.
Sounds like a great day filled with fun and family! Love it!
Oh what a fun day! It looks like all of the kids had fun, as well as the adults... you don't get much better than that!
What a fun day!!
That sounds so awesome! I've never been walnut picking and I've never seen pomegranates growing on trees. New England just doesn't have that kind of stuff. Someday I'll have to go to California and check out a farm!!!
How long did it take to collect 300lbs of walnuts? I have never tried pomegranites how do you know if one is fresh? Do you just eat the seeds?
what do you do with all those walnuts? were they for your friends or did you purchase them for your home? how yummy! your kids must have had such a blast to be outdoors in the country!
300 at $.30 per pound...WOW! You and the kids can be proud of your work! Looks like a lot of fun too!...Too bad you didn't have chicken for dinner.
Wow, 300lbs, what on earth are you going to do with all those walnuts?
I wanted to share this w/you. Not sure if you already know, but remember the coach on Facing the Giants? Well he and his wife adopted two children from the Ukraine, (one w/a facial deformity.) There is a short video that I saw on another blog that I follow. I couldn't figure out how to post just the video, so here is the link to the blog: http://steppinheavenward.blogspot.com/
OH my goodness, eye surgery and pecked by a chicken all in one week;)
What a great day you had with your family! What great friends, too!
That looks like a fabulous activity for your family. I'm glad you have some great friends.
I have never seen a pomegranate on a tree. In fact, I have no idea what I would do with a pomegranate if I had one!
Since Dennis had an evisceration will he receive a prosthetic eye?
Christine,
I wanted to let you know that I am using your blog to help my boys (5 and 6yo) see that different is only on the outside. :) They have seen the pictures of Dennis's eye and we talk about God making him that way, and that that eye doesn't work but that he's just like our boys anyway--he loves to play, and climb fences and eat and take baths...and whatever other pictures you post on your blog. ;) I just wanted to thank you for sharing your pics since you are giving me the opportunity to teach my guys that it doesn't matter what "disabilities" we may think people have (or that other people label us with!), we all have the same feelings and like to do a lot of the same things. :)
How do you seed the pomagranates without smooshing all the seeds. Also, doesn't it take forever to do? They are so yummy, but I haven't eaten one in years!
What a great time you had! You picked so many nuts - that's great. It's nice that such a lovely family live nearby!
