How Embarrassing!

Today was crazy hat and sock day! I was actually declared, "The Best" when I let Andrew borrow my nifty socks that were just his size. Doesn't this bunch look silly?

After school, Andrew brought this to me to sign. Needless to say, I was very embarrassed. When I asked Andrew why of all things did he decide to draw these all over his paper he replied, "I was bored!" and "They are cool!" See.... Daddy draws all kinds of things with the kids-- many times pictures of swordsmen or Star War Jedi Knights, nothing wrong in my opinion--- but I guess his teacher didn't see the humor in it.

Dennis is learning to feed himself. Honestly, I am not very patient with him because he makes a huge mess after two or three spoonfuls, but I do let him try at least once a day so that he will slowly learn to feed himself. It is just so much easier to do it for him---- but I know I got to let him do it eventually.

Sveta took her shower and decided to come and set up shop her in the living room. She loves to pretend to be an office woman doing very important stuff. And tonight, she looked to be doing stuff that was seriously very, very important.

As soon as I mentioned bed for Dennis, Rachel quickly swooped him up to get some last minute playtime in.

And to think that somebody once mentioned a long time ago that they were concerned that Dennis would not get enough attention.

I would have been written up every day for that. My dad was in the Army, so yea...I drew pictures of people fighting and guns. Not that I wanted to hurt anyone, I was just basically drawing out my own little story.

You would think that the teacher would ask what the story was behind the drawings before sending it home. Oh well. Man, the teachers are gonna hate me.

Sveta definitely looks like she is doing something very serioues and had better not be interrupted! How funny...playing office. I want to play college!! :)

How could he not get enough attention around there? One day he'll probably be annoyed with all of the attention! LOL
I love funky sock day, I think that should be every day!

What's wrong with the pictures. . .at least the assignment was done first. My son would have drawn the pictures and forgotten about the assignment. :)

The kids lined up for school - great picture. Love the striped tights.

Dennis - He is a showered with love and attention and I bet he just loves it. His life is so, so different than what he was living in the orphanage.

Love the socks, very fun! Way to go Dennis! That's great even with the mess that has to feel good to see him trying. Fun times are happening at your place!

Not enough attention! ha. I bet Sveta would like to come to my house to play office, it's a favorite here with the girls. My Suzanne held onto her birthday money for months and months, and then bought some stuff to play office with. I like how you put it, "set up shop"...and I love the crazy socks picture. It's nice to have kids that aren't afraid to be silly. It shows they are loved and have some self-esteem....

Care with those drawings...Chris, my oldest was put in IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION for drawing guns in class. "The teacher was scared the threats were towards her"! Yes, that is one I fought and won but with a strict warning that if it happens againg he will go to ISS!

Love the business woman that Sveta is becoming. Great things in her future!

I can tell Denis eats up every bit of attention he gets! He is absolutely beautiful!!

Oh - been there, done that with the gun thing. And once - talk about embarrassing!!! it was while I was in Zhen's classroom. But it was the teacher who should have been embarrassed. It was a Halloween party and Zhen had a snake ring on that was too big, so it was on his pointer finger. Someone asked to see it, so he held his finger out - and that teacher BELLOWED across the room - NO GUNS, ZHENYA KITCHING!!!! DO YOU WANT TO BE AT THIS PARTY??? I think she forgot I was in the room, because she suddenly got all still, especially when all the kids at his table said what he was doing. Frankly, I think the "anti-gun" thing has gone too far. It makes the kids even more obsessed.

Anastasia loves to play "office" too....actually, she is playing the Orphanage Director with her important "papka" of paper.

I love all the silly socks and that they are comfortable enough with themselves to wear them. Sveta looks very serious, she must be working on something of great importance! Rachel is certainly turning into a lovely young lady, inside and out. Not enough attention??!! Are you even kidding me? I love that he is feeding himself, to be honest, I feel the same way about Jonathan feeding himself, what a mess. I have to admit, it depends on my mood and how much I feel like cleaning up after him. I KNOW he needs practice, but he doesn't need a mother with an attitude either. ;o) It's all in the timing.

It's great to see what everyday life is like with your family.

Love the crazy socks. We've just gone through a week of crazy hair, hat, mixed up clothes days. Kids love them!

Dennis is learning so much! What a smart little guy!

I am a totally unreformed doodler. I'm with Andrew... I'd get totally bored in class, and rather than get in trouble by talking or goofing off, I'd sit and draw. I'd draw when listening to lectures - it actually kept me focused. Some teachers were ok with it, once they realized that I was paying attention. Some were just so close-minded and inflexible that they hated it - tough - I never stopped!

I understand not wanting kids to make threats, but little boys play at fighting, draw things, and are fascinated by it all... I ended up taking a sword away from Brian at school today during a sword fight with other costumed knights and ninjas - but only because it was getting a bit too rowdy, I let him keep his 2nd sword. I think we are lucky to be away from the anti-gun fanatacism in the US. I WORRY about kids who think guns are exciting taboo items and are not being trained that guns are just tools and about gun safety... they are the ones who end up getting hurt. Sounds to me like Andrew's teacher needs to grow an imagination and remember what age-level she is dealing with.

Christine, my favorite part of your whole post is the last picture: Rachel swooping up Dennis in a big hug, and....Sveta doing some SERIOUS office work in the background..lol. That cracks me up!

What sweet pictures of Rachel and Dennis.
Sveta is a great little actress!
Crazy sock day? What fun!! The kids look great!
How nice that Caleb doesn't really care what others think. I wish I was that way when I was his age, I always cared too much.

Love the silly socks.

I also love seeing Denis getting spoiled. Makes me laugh that people would think he would not get enough attention.
