Celebrating with Style---Jonny's birthday

Oh what a wonderful Saturday! I love knowing that our family will be together 24/7 on weekends with no work or school to plan around.

This morning was a lazy one.... got to sleep in until almost 8:00am.

We let Misty and Dolly in to play around first thing in the morning and boy were they silly. Dennis hardly cries when he wakes up in the morning. Usually one of us hears him playing around in the room talking to himself and we go in and get greeted with a big smile. It is such a nice feeling.

By mid-morning Dennis was already showing signs that he was ready for a nap. I gave him an instant breakfast with milk in his bottle and Julia cuddled with him. Now that she is in school, she tries to get this special time with him on the weekends. I just love this picture of both of them.

John started BSF at a new church this year since we moved. He has decided to be a children's leader because there is such a need. Right now, only William and Anna can attend with him because the other kids do not have teachers for their grade.

Today he spent time with them going over their lessons and memory verse.

Rachel frosted cupcakes and Jonny decorated them. They were made to celebrate Jonny's birthday today.

I did all of the girls' hair---- fancier than usual. Some had braids, or snails, or lots of tiny pony tails all over their head. Each hairstyle matched their personality.

Look at Annalyn and Sveta! Isn't their hair wild?

Since Jonny picked out his hairstyle and thought it was just so cool, John thought it would be fun if he and Jonny could look alike today. Jonny had a kick watching Daddy fix his hair like his and picking out a similar shirt and jeans. Don't they look like they could be twins?

Before we went to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate Jonny's 5th birthday, we went to Toys R Us so that Jonny could pick out a toy to buy from the birthday money he got from Aunt Tanya, Baboonya, and some of his siblings who gave Jonny a couple of bucks.

After looking at rows and rows of toys, Jonny came back to the costume section and bought himself a hulk costume. He also bought a SpiderMan candy bucket. We have buckets and costumes at home but his little heart desired these two things so we let him get them..... and wear it to Chuck E Cheese.

When we asked Jonny what he wanted to do for his birthday he chose to go here. I asked if he wanted to invite any friends and he answered, "No, I don't think so. Just my family is good enough to come." That was sweet, I thought. He did want grandparents to come, however.

All the kids got 15 extra tokens for bringing in their report card. And since my Mom printed coupons off the internet, we got a great deal, and Jonny got 20 extra, free tokens because he was the birthday boy.

Rachel's goal was to win as many tickets as she possibly could. Most of the older kids had the same goal.

Dennis really enjoyed the place...... this was probably the only time that I got the chance to sit down the whole time we were there.

When it was time to eat pizza, even Dennis joined us (even after eating a huge bowl of fruit and oatmeal).

It didn't take long for us to demolish four large pizzas.

Jonny loved sitting next to his Daddy when it was time to eat.

We filled up four tables nicely.

It was nice to see that our older boys weren't too old for Chuck E Cheese.

Dennis went wild with excitement over all the kiddy rides. He cried when I would first take him off when the ride was over. I can't wait to see how he does at Disneyland someday.

This shot of William is an absolute perfect picture to describe William without words.

Rachel actually insisted that one of us take a picture of her with Chuck.

All of the younger kids wanted to take turns riding with Dennis. Andrew was so good at holding on to Dennis to make sure he didn't fall over, and I didn't even have to ask him.

Jonny was excited to finally blow out his candle. His birthday was actually last week so he had to wait a few days before he could make a wish.

All the kids were really nice and shared their prizes bought with the tickets they had won. Caleb was particularly generous and let Jonny pick out lots of stuff with the tickets he had earned.

Here is Jonny picking out his prizes.

On the way home Julia and Rachel introduced Dennis to Pop Rocks. He was intrigued with the party going on inside his mouth.

Happy Birthday Jonny!

1: I love your family.

2: for your digest; what is your least favorite/absolute favorite food. Have any of your kids had "lovies"(you know that stuffed animal/blanket they won't let go of) do you read to your kids? If so what is your favorite story to reAd to your children(non bible).

You have got to print a 5x7 and frame that picture of Daddy and Jonny together with matching hair dos and outfits, so Jonny can treasure it for years to come! Inside he was probably soooo honoured that Daddy wanted to match HIM for the day! Your family has a great way of making each child feel like an individual, and an important member, rather than allowing them to be viewed as just a conglomerate flock. I'm so impressed!

If we come across country to meet you some day, will the girls let me do their hair too! I always grab a friends daughter here when I can and do hair. love it!

How cute is Jonny! He and Nick would get along great although I have seen that William pose on the skee ball platform from my own son...gotta love'em!

Thanks for answering my BSF question! :)

What a party! It looks like not only was Andrew hanging on to Dennis on that ride, but Dennis has his little hand on Andrew's leg...so cute. Dennis has already had so many new experiences in his short time with you, I wonder how much of his life in Ukraine he can remember.
Johnny and John look great next to each other, right down to the same look on their face. I hope you had a great time Jonny! Happy Birthday!

You're going to think I'm nuts, but this post made me cry! I read your blog everyday, and love it - but for some reason this post, with all the love expressed in it, just made me weep - like the older boys allowing Johnny to buy prizes with their tickets and holding Dennis in the rides so he wouldn't fall out, and that picture of Julia holding Dennis with the bottle...too sweet for words.

I love to come by and check out your blog on the weekends. You have such a beautiful family it is so inspiring to me. I also find it so interesting to read about your faith. I had never considered myself religious until a month or so ago when I started reading blogs like this one, and researching adoption - now I really feel like something has been woken in my heart and I have been finding out a lot about Christianity and investigating local churches. Thank you for opening my eyes to God.

Fun! Fun! Memories Made! My big kids (almost 16 and 14) haven't outgrown Chuckecheese yet either. They love when the younger ones have a bday and always suggest CEC to them (so they can go :)

Love the pic of dad and son!

I felt the same way as FaerieMama, I got chocked up but was smiling the whole time I looked and read your post. Such loving children, oh I know they have their moments, they all do, but their love for their family is evident. I love how you let the birthday child choose their special day, we do the same, but we don't have as many birthdays as you!! :oD Anah's birthday is the 17th of this month, I guess I won't be with her :o( . We'll celebrate as soon as I see her, we'll have to wait until next year to see how she chooses to spend her birthday!

Love John and Jonny, way toooo cute!

How fun. It is so nice that your children aren't overwhelmed with homework on the weekend. Unfortunately, each of mine has some, so there is no rest on the weekend!

Rachel's hair is so pretty!

What wonderful photos! Those kids are going to have good memories. :D I can`t believe you took 11 kids into ToysRUs. Brave, brave parents. :) Even if your kids are well-behaved like yours . . . I`d be a bit nervous.

John and Jonny look so much alike, but not the hair and clothes . . .it`s that funny pressed lip expression! So cute.

I remember when Dorian got to try his first rides, he just wouldn`t get off. :) Looks like Dennis had a blast. He just gets chubbier and chubbier each time you post photos, which is just terrific. That`s one blessed little boy!

Happy (belated) birthday, Jonny! What a great party - it looks like everyone had a blast (and now I'm hungry for pizza...).

I just left you a couple of messages re. Dennis's surgery on Friday's post - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia specializes treating in craniofacial anomalies and might be worth a faxed consult. I do wish you all and CHOP were not on opposite coasts!

Best wishes and many happy returns,

I believe this is my first time commenting on your blog AND I'm not even sure where I discovered it at! That said, I want you to know you are an INCREDIBLE inspiration and I love your Christian perspective on everything. Seeing your positive but REAL approach is refreshing. Witnessing (thru your blog) what you've experienced helps give me strength and hope as we face my oldest daughter's surgery tomorrow morning (she is 17). Thank you so very much for taking the time to blog and share your life with others.
God Bless You!
