The visit to the Opthamalogist went well. He verified that Jonny does have mild Amblyopia in the right eye.
He wants to try the patch. Jonny was so excited to do it, but as soon as it was on, he couldn't wait for the two hours to be up. I'm not sure why the school test results came back so bad--- Jonny is 20/40 in his right eye and doesn't even need a new prescription.

Joe had to use a patch when he was a kid too. I don't think he liked it very much either.

I used to have to do the same thing (although I was really young- started as a baby)... I hated it! Don't think it did much for me (doctor scratched my cornea when i was being born)- but hopefully it helps for jonny!
My little sister had amblyopia. The ophthalmologist had my mom patch her good eye to encourage the bad eye to work. It worked so well that the bad eye ended up stronger than the good eye! Of course, I'm not sure how her eyes are now, but it was very helpful back then. :-)

I totally understand your frustration. We ran into the same problems with our son. Hang in there. I have not posted in awhile but love to watch the progress of your family.
My hubby had the same thing as a little dude and his eye is just fine now! He looks cute as a bug in a rug:)
Hi - I had the same issue with my eyes as a child and taking those vision tests was hard!! It was much easier if I shut one eye to see, too, which is how kids tend to lose the sight in one eye when they have that problem, and then the brain shuts off the switch to that eye's input.
Now my eyes are fixed I can tell you these things- but kids cannot b/c they have nothing to compare it to!! Just know this- when you have amblyopia or double vision, or other serious eye problems, life can be an extra struggle in ways that would surprise you!!
That may sound strange in light of the issues you are dealing with with Dennis, but it's true. Everyone is unique!! Go, Jonny!!

how long will you do the patch treatments
I remember having an eye patch. I hope that works well for him and for your sake I hope if slows him down some. Although I know it didn't slow me down any. I got the strangest looks from other parents at the park when I rode past them on my bike.
Glad he is ok. We didn't do the patch with henry, his doc did eye drops, which Henry HATED. Ithink the patch is so much easier!

Next Friday, the 19th, is talk like a pirate day, tell Jonny that his Aunt Connie says "Arrr! Ye be looking mighty handsome with that there pirate patch, me matey!" ;-) Good they found the problem and it seems to be easily treatable.
I also need to patch my little girl and I use the orthopad patches and order them from the internet. They are the cheapest and they come plain, boys, fun, and girl designs.
For milder amblyopia you just need to patch 2 hrs. They did a study only a short time ago and found 2 hours will do the trick. My little girl has a severe case so we stioll have to patch 10 hrs a day.
For my little girl, she loves to watch cartoon or Disney TV, movie DVDs, and play on the computer. We make it a rule that she has to have her patch on to do this. If she has taken it off we turn of the entertainment. My little girl is head strong.
It looks like Jonny is a good little boy who wants to please you, and you also are firm and consistant with your kids so I bet you will not have any problems.
The eye Dr will usually say patching will fix it but if you go to an optomitrist (the glasses people) they will recommend eye exercises. It is controversial as to if eye exercises work or not.
The first 2 weeks are tough as you are setting a pattern. After that it is automatic.
