MRI...... and church went great!

Today sure went by fast. As I was getting ready to take Anna to the hospital I thought that since I was going to drive right past our doctor's office I should just leave early and stop by so Dennis could get the shots he missed when he had his ear infection. That pushed our excursion up one hour earlier so that we would have some extra time in case the nurses were behind. Poor Dennis got five shots, but seemed okay once the band aids were on. He sure turns red when he screams but as soon as I sat him up to lift him into my arms he was fine.

Despite Anna being thirsty and hungry she really was a good girl for the whole procedure.

In the waiting room, this funny mirror kept Jonny's attention....... for three minutes.

Anna's MRI went well. Because she is adopted she had to have full body X-Ray to make sure there are no metal objects inside her. I asked what they would do with Dennis once he has his glass eye and they said that if it moves with the help of a magnet then he will not be able to have an MRI. Hmmm, interesting. You learn something new everyday.

I got to quickly drop in and say hi to a friend over in the HR department--- but the boys were hungry so it was really really quick. We grabbed something at the cafeteria--- yikes the food is rather expensive---- I guess I will be packing food when I am here for Dennis' surgeries.

We got to go home a little after 2pm. Within five minutes Jonny, Dennis, and Anna were out like a light. They slept all the way home and allowed me some peace and quiet to think and pray.
It felt nice being able to reconnect with God----- I so selfishly forget to spend time with him everyday and the drive home provided me the opportunity to lift up those I had promised to pray for during the week.

Tonight our church (it feels so nice being able to once again say "our" church) had a kick off dinner for the kids' Wednesday night program. It was really nice. They had really good food and lots of things for the kids to do, and we met so many nice, new people that have went out of their way to come and talk to us. I guess the word has spread pretty quickly that a crazy couple with 11 kids has started attending the church and everyone wants to come and meet us. Ahhhh, just kidding, but I must admit that I sure feel welcome and at home here. Praise God.

Rachel had fun doing the bounce house obstacle course.

So did Julia.

Annalyn somehow hurt her toe and made it bleed. I am sure it hurt Annalyn, and John made sure to give it some lovin' but we knew that we wanted her to attend class as did she so we cleaned up her toe and put her shoe back on. From past experience we have seen Annalyn use little things like this to seek extra attention from complete strangers or least people she doesn't know very well so we instructed her to keep her shoe on (it was tied loosely) until we got home. But, sure enough when John went to get the kids, Annalyn's shoe was off and she was showing off her toe. Still working on this. When we got home I bandaged it up...... I hope I convinced her that she is going to be okay.

Dennis and Daddy had a great game of chase. Dennis actually understood it and had a great time chasing Daddy round and round.

But Dennis' little legs couldn't keep up and soon he tired out.

The main thing is that as we were all in the car driving home John and I asked all the kids if they like our new church.

All of them screamed yes except William who said, "No it is not better because I didn't win a prize in the raffle."

This is totally something that only William would say.

John answered him, "Did our other church even have a raffle?"

"Well no...... nevermind then." This too is so typical of William. Don't worry though he is over it now and actually likes our new church afterall.

Your church sounds wonderful! So glad you are fitting in so well. Dennis is just so different from when you first adopted him! He's doing so well.
Glad the MRI went well. It's always a bit scary for children. She did really well!

I forgot about Anna's needing the MRI. Is she going to be having surgery?

Wow. The difference between Catholic and Protestant churches is very different. We are very SERIOUS about our religious education. Although I work hard to make sure that the classes themselves, are appealing, and involving, there is never any "hoopla" like that!!!

We do have the "Ministry Fair" that I mentioned on my blog that is a fun social time, but even that is TAME, TAME, TAME in comparison it looks like!

Maybe I should go undercover and get some ideas. :)

Regarding raffles, our priest told a funny story last week. When he was 4 years old he won the raffle at his parish festival, and the prize was a turkey. He had only oen idea about this - he knew he had won a live turkey which he could keep in the back yard as a pet. He was very shocked and horrified to see instead his father arrive home with a frozen turkey.

It's always enjoyable to read about your day to day adventures. That is interesting about the MRI. My adopted son has had 3 of them now and no one has ever even asked about stuff like that, and certainly haven't required a full body x-ray. That seems like a LOT of radiation to put a kid through, especially a developing little girl...but what do I know? I'm not a doc... Makes sense that metal inside would cause problems, though.

Oh, I can so relate to Annalyn's toe incident. This kind of thing happens all the time at our house. Every person we come in contact with (stranger or not) hears about our van getting wrecked and towed to the fix-it shop a few weeks ago. I find it interesting that the things they choose to divulge to perfect strangers or people they don't know real well is stuff that is traumatic to them. Something about those little traumas compells them to visit (almost obsessivly) the incident over and over and over again. It's so fun, isn't it?

Sounds like you guys are fitting right in at the new church, "Your church"! Awesome

When will you have results of the MRI?

Having a large family can make it rather difficult to sneak into any new place. I used to wonder why the regulars at our old church would sit in "our" spot when we took up the whole row every week.

I'm so happy for you in your new church family! It is such a blessing I know. I'm glad Anna's MRI went well and that she tolerated it without difficulty. How clever Dennis is, playing tag with daddy...yeah Dennis!

What a great day! I'm glad to see that you multi-task, too. Getting shots and MRI in one trip sounds like something I would do! We usually all go to the doctor at once to save ourselves extra trips! Have a great day.

So happy to hear that the MRI went good..interesting about the magnet and the eye..fascinating really. It is so nice to hear that you all love "your Church" I have been a life long member of mine and love that no matter where I go, it is pretty much the same, and a family of 11 kids wouldn't phase anyone at our church..we only have 6 in our home which in todays world is a lot but 11 really is practically double our size..wow!! Sounds like everyone is happy even William!! Horray!!

I know what you mean about having to find time to spend with God. I treasure my time in the afternoons when both girls take naps. I sit outside and read my daily Bible.
The bouncy house looks really fun.

Christine-
looks like a fun church! glad that all the kiddos enjoy being there - it makes such a difference!
I forgot why Anna was getting the MRI??? Was it for the growth issue? I just can't keep up anymore - my mind is going! haha!

I had a question about Dennis... do they know what his vision is on his seeing eye? I was just curious if he had full range of vision.... just because I am nosy! hehe!

Take care!
Hugs!

That picture of them all snoozin' in the back seat is priceless! I may have missed it, but why did she have to have an MRI? Those things freak me out. Glad she did o.k. with it.

Glad the MRI went okay. I hope that little Dennis doesn't get a fever with his shots. I always hated that. Glad you guys are getting settled. Love your face.

I am so glad you have found a church home! I love all the pictures especially of the 3 sleeping in the backseat...just precious. :) It is nice to get quiet time. Sometimes when I can't sleep at night, I will start praying for people that I told I would pray for. So, I know exactly what you are talking about. :)

I hope you get the results of the MRI soon. I am glad Anna did well. :)

Doesn't that suck about the food! It was expensive when we were there too. And, our hospital here is way overpriced as well. Like people at the hospital can really afford to have their child admitted AND pay extra to eat! It bugs me to pieces! I think that VCH has food vouchers for the cafeteria. Ask about them. I believe that we were given some. ~Blessings

Did you give Dennis the vaccines that contain cells/tissue from aborted babies? What is your view on vaccinations? I hope I'm not putting you on the spot too much, I'm just curious what you think.

Hospital food can be very expensive! One of the last times we were at UNM, the regular cafeteria was closed, so we had to eat at a chain restaurant inside, and for two sandwiches and two drinks it cost us about $20! We were horrified! Next time we'll just go across the hospital campus and hit subway & both eat for $6!

I'm so glad you found "your church"! It's a wonderful feeling when you know you've found the right one!
