Okay, okay, don't get too excited. This incident happened eight years ago, but when I found this particular x-ray it brought back many memories that thankfully I can chuckle about today. Yes, I am still unpacking boxes and I found this x-ray taken of Adam when he was only five years old. It was naptime and my kids were supposed to be napping. About 10 minutes unto their naptime, Adam comes out to me and quietly tells me that he accidentally swallowed Julia's hair clip. When he showed me the other one he was still holding, I literally flipped out. I was young (probably only 24), inexperienced compared to today, and hadn't learned to not panic when things like this happen. I of course rushed him to the hospital fearing that this foreign object could lacerate his esophagus or intestine.
Well turns out they wanted to just wait to see if he passed it since it was traveling along without incidence. They asked me to look through his bowel movements for the next couple of days and to only bring him back if I didn't find it in a week, there was evidence of blood, or he felt pain. Thankfully, I found it about three days later--- can you say yuck?

YUCK! (How was that?) I once found a penny in Benjamin's dirty diaper. I had no clue he had even swallowed one.
Many years ago my uncle swallowed a marble. When my grandma called the doctor he said "Don't worry, you'll get it back in a few days." Can you say yuck?
Oh my word!
oh my lord, i am so surprized they sent you home from the hospital. Wow, well we can laugh about it now. Pook little guy!
Yuck! I probably would've flipped out too.
Must have been an "interesting" three days!
Oh my goodness! How do children do stuff like that? Aren't they just amazing? And they sent you home? Wow! Also, just for the note: I did the real me post if you would like to read it! Nothing special, but done! :)
Ahhhhh memories! When my 17 year old was around 2, he got the crank (I guess that's what it's called) on the music box off, and swallowed it. I took him to the hospital and we have a similar xray. A couple days later, I retrieved it from his diaper. And yes, I cleaned it and put it back on my music box!!!!!!:)

Oh oh! We have a BUNCH like this, always with the same kid, Angela! LOL The first one was at a year old. She was in the church nursery and they came to get me because she was coughing weird. Very raspy. She has problems with her esophagus so I recognized the cough as her having aspirated. We were only a couple minutes from the hospital so I decided to bring her in. As we were walking out the door this little girl came up to me, "Do you think she could swallow this?" and held out her hand to show me several unused staples. You know, with the tines sticking straight out? When we got to the ER and I nonchalantly said, "I think she swallowed staples" the ER doc kind of laughed that idea away. A few minutes later he came out with his face white as a sheet and the xray in his hand. There were two staples. On stuck in her nissen wrap (at the base of her esophagus) and the other HANGING on the entrace to her trahea! Yep...that was an ambulance trip to childrens with mom puking in the back of the ambulance. Somewhere I have pictures of the endoscopy. Oh. and little girl ponytail holders don't go through a nissen either and have to be fished out by endoscopy too! LOL
ROFLOL!!!!!!!
This reminds me of the time our DOG ate our son's 5.00 bill. He was so upset. He had never had 5.00 before and the dog ATE IT!
So we prayed together that the dog would cough it up or.... well, you get the picture......
Sure enough, the dog goes outside and in front of the picture window, produces a 5.00 bill!!!! right in front of our eyes. It increased our son's faith, but made me sick! LOL
We took tweesers, picked it up, soaked it in anti bacterial soap, dried it with a hair dryer, put it in a zip lock bag, took it to the bank and innocently exchanged it by saying, "my dog ate this, can I have a different one?" :)
Cheney ate a calculator battery. Same drill, although they did panic me when they said if the acid started leaking, they would have to get it out of there! He passed it, as well, although I must not have done a good job looking for it. I had to have another x-ray taken to show we were in the clear.
HOLY cow!
I have to say I still flip out! I don't handle stress, even this many kid later! I am a giant mess when one of the kids gets hurt! :(

ps I have given you an award. It will be posted tmorrow on my blog :)
♥ How do you accidentley swallow a hair clip that big! I think I would have been a little nervous too!
The only things my kids ever chewed on inappropriately was crayons - chewed up bits, so I never worried about going to the doctor. Made for very... um... colorful... diapers though.
Wow, I'm glad everything turned out okay.
That is so funny! Now it is. Back then, I would of flipped out too.
