After their showers, all of my girls huddled into our bathroom with the tub to watch Rachel, shave her legs for the very first time. I felt so honored to be around all of my daughters, who for this moment, thought I knew everything........... about shaving, that is.

Even though Grandma bought Rachel a very safe shaver, she was very nervous about using it, and asked me to show her. I guided her hand, and taught her to follow her shin bone ever so carefully. I shaved her first leg and then Rachel did her second, mostly on her own.
I could see how proud she was of herself, and all the other girls were quite envious, of her elevated status now known as "the sister that shaves". It was just as special of a moment for me as it was for her.
When Rachel was about done, Julia asked me if she could shave too. My answer was no of course, until she showed me how noticeable the hair on her legs actually is.
"Now Julia, you know that you can't shave until you are much older. Besides, it wouldn't be fair to Rachel who had to wait until she was twelve."
"Mom, I don't mind if Julia shaved, because then I would have a partner, " Rachel answered.
Ahhhh, sister camaraderie. What is a mom to do?

Ahh! They're growing up so fast!
By the way, I enjoyed the video of Jonny. It brought tears to my eyes as I've really had a hard time thinking about all Owen missed and all we missed with him. It also makes me think about parents with biological children who take them for granted (not referring to those given for adoption but those who have parents who don't give them time and attention and love and affection). It's so sad, isn't it? Children are a gift that should be cherished.
Thank you for sharing your feelings. It helps to see someone else is feeling the way I do.

How sweet. What kind of razor? I need to start thinking about stuff like that one of these years. (For my girls.)

What a wonderful moment that must have been for you! As for Julia shaving, I'd say hold off on that, at least for now. In the interest of fairness, I think it would be good for her to wait. It's wintertime right now, so it won't matter anyway. Maybe in the summertime, if it's really bugging her, then you can show her then.
Wow! She's growing up :-)
Honor (4 going on 20) wants to do everything I do already.. So, I guess I only have 8 more years of enthusiastic pushing to grow up to face??!!
Actually. your story made me feel very happy for you all. I may joke, but I love that Honor follows me around wants to be a big girl - as much as I still want her to be my little one! When I go to put my make-up on, and find her Hello Kitty lip gloss in the basket with my cosmetics - because that's where make-up is supposed to go! - touches me deep in a way the guys in my family just don't get.
Rachel is such a beauty! Funny how the things we couldn't wait to do when young, we sometimes dread doing now (for me, the dread is all of the time).....I have the blessing of having blondish red hair on my legs so not so noticeable! yeah! :)
I love how involved you are with your girls. If we ever adopt again and get a girl, I will definitely take some tips from you!
Have a great week! Karen
Rachel looks SO proud! It's really precious.
What a great memory. Shaving is so fun when you start and as we age it gets so time consuming.
How precious. My Mom was so busy I started using my Dad's razor without any help. Yikes.
Ah, "the sister that shaves". I love it! What a rite of passage it is.
I still remember having to go against my mom and shave my legs in secret b/c I was the only girl in 8th grade not allowed to shave my legs and was so embarrassed in gym class each week. When she found out, I told her I didn't care if she punished me. I simply couldn't face the other smooth legged girls in gym as a hairy monster another week. She ended up laughing and being fine with it. I still don't know what she thought would be so awful about me shaving my legs?! Moms! What do ya do with em'? Anyway, good for you for getting to this at these ages!
ah I was so excited to start! Now IN think errrr what was I so excited about!
IT JUST keeps growing back!!
What kind of razor is it... It'll be years before my oldest girl is ready (she is 6), but it would be nice to know what kind of razor to look for. *lol*

My mother didn't want me shaving my legs until I was 12 or 13. But I did it earlier than that w/ my best friend helping me.
With all the girls you have, you may have to buy stock in K-Tex, or Always! LOL I had 2 sisters, plus my mother, and we would get so embarrased w/ the TV Commercials. And my Dad knew it and he would tease us in fun.
