Raw Top Ramen

Rachel loves to eat raw top ramen noodles. It is a comfort food for her, I think. She said that everyone ate it in Ukraine-- all the time.

It's not that bad.

But, why didn't they cook it?

Perhaps this was eaten raw because they didn't have the provisions needed to cook it. Pictures of unsupervised children eating bricks of raw ramen pop up in my head.

Mmmm I'm an adult and I still eat raw ramen. It's cheap and if I get hungry at 3am and I don't have food in my fridge then I can just gnaw on some ramen while working at my computer.

well its fun you posted about that!

at the kids school tuck shop they sell them in the packet like that only they have the powder stuff already over it!

doesnt do much for me but the kids love it!

I ate so much of that stuff while in Kaz (cooked, though). I never thought of trying it raw.
Next time I'll have to try it uncooked (I'm curious now)!!

My 6-yr-old would live on cooked ramen but my son says all the kids in middle school eat it raw for snacks. I thought he might be making it up because I caught him taking one without telling me.

Hope she chews it up good. Otherwise it may be a little uncomfortable later on. :)

Funny, my almost 10 yr old just told me that at someone's house recently they ate raw Ramen noodles, and could she eat some plain? So then I see this, a dark-haired version of my Olivia, munching on raw Ramen noodles. Wow, I'm so impressed with this blog. I started reading it, a little skeptical, thinking that it would be someone who had a completely different thought process than I. I am from a large family and we just had number 6 and I definitely have a large family mentality and don't often run across someone with the same mentality as I do on family life, especially with children. As I scroll down and read this, I just can't trip you up on how you deal with life, you do just keep it real! One thing I don't get though, all your pictures portray such of a neat and tidy, and beatiful,I might add, house. How do you do it? The more bodies we have running around our house, the more dirty walls, dings, scratches, drawings, etc. we have all over the place. Even if I am able to keep up on the cleaning, I am never able to keep the damage at bay. I'm one who likes to paint all my walls about every two years and have now found that even every two years doesn't cut it on keeping the place from looking pretty dinged up shortly after painting! I love your blog!!!

When we were little kids my mother used to pack raw ramen for snacks in church. Kept us quiet too! And by the way I absolutely love your blog! There was another one I was reading for a while about a large family, but stopped, when, in my opinion the woman posting it started drawing national attention from it, well, her 'fame' seems to me to have gone to her head. Like someone else posted - you keep it real. Love it.

I used to snack on raw ramen! It was also a favorite pogey bait when I was in the Army - lightweight, and gets that hunger/snack craving. We rarely got to cook it, but raw, it made for good nibbling.

Crunchy but not like regular pasta.

We always cook it but the kids like to eat the little pieces that get away.

Misha loves raw noodles also. I couldn't believe it the first time he grabbed some out of the bag, ate them, and said "Yummy, Yummy. More?"
YUCK!!!!

I haven't had it in years and I will never it again. The MSG in it made me swell and gives my an unsatiable thirst. I suppose if you eat it raw you avoid the MSG problems.

How funny that I was eating ramen noodles when I clicked on this post, mine were cooked though. I'll have to try them raw too.

I like them raw, too.

My mom makes a really great salad with raw (broken up) ramen noodles in it. We all LOVE it.

You beat me to the punch on this one! My Russian kids love it this way, and like to put it in a baggie, smash it up, put the powder over it and carry it around in their pockets. They tell me (the two big boys) that if they ever got a bit of spending money this is what they'd buy at the store. I think you are right - I think having that "snack" in their pockets - then and now - does provide a certain comfort.

Oh, Ramen noodles...remind me of my poor college days.
Your daughters are beautiful.

How far do you live from LA?

My sisters like raw sapgetti noodles but I don't care for them.

I was going to tell you about the delicious tossed salad that you can make with raw ramen noodles broken up over it. I see someone has mentioned it. It truly is delicious in a salad! Try this combination:

greens, slivered toasted almonds, either canned manderine oranges or some fresh sliced strawberries, crumble uncooked ramen noodles over the top, and poppyseed dressing. Delicious.

6pack, She likes most of our food. Thankfully, she is not very picky.
Rachael and Priscilla, I have had a wonderful Chineses Chicken Salad with crushed ramern noodles, and I agree that it is fabulous. They just seem different when you eat them alone.

Mmmmmm, yum! I do that, too! My mom hates that I love it (so many calories/fat/trans-fat/etc for a snack), but every once in awhile I convince her to let me have a pack!
