How's your weekend going?

Jonny is sick. Really sick. Probably the flu. Fever. Horrid deep cough. Runny nose. Aches and pains. Blisters in mouth from fever. Even eyes are producing mucus.

It's not pretty. He's like a little, crying, barking puppy.

I do have have to put in a good word for Mucinex for kids though. It is the only thing that has helped his cough

The eye thing, thankfully, is not pink eye, even though he has tons of gunk in his eyes. I know this because it is not contagious. If it was, it would be going through my home like wildfire affecting all the children. Then I would have to schlep all of them down to the doctor's office for a prescription, and that is about as much fun as chewing on glass.

I have been washing Jonny's eyes out with baby shampoo, and they are getting better. My midwife recommended doing this because baby shampoo is tear free which means it won't sting while you are washing out the bacteria.

Andrew also has what Jonny has, though not quite as bad. William has a mild case, and Julia is probably getting it. She complained of a head ache. I'm sure that in the morning, I can add someone else to this list.

That is probably the only drawback I can think of to having a large family. Large families equal more people getting sick, spreading more germs around, and being out of commission for longer periods of time. Oh well, at least they are extra cuddly, a fair trade off in my opinion.

No matter what happens, I hope I don't get it because I'm not sure who would take care of me!

Oh, and to top it off, the tooth fairy is visiting tonight. I better blog to help me stay up, or the tooth fairy might just forget!

oh! Poor Jonny! I sure hope he feels better soon :-(

Guaifenesin (the active ingredient of mucinex) is the only cough/cold medicine we believe in, for us or the kids - except honey. Brian and I both find that it really helps calm coughs (Brad hasn't tried it, Honor can't stand it and will only eat it to stop hiccups!). I also think the sugar gives a bit of a 'sugar rush, sugar crash' which isn't a bad thing right before bed!

Get better Jonny! We love you!! (and the rest of you - Stay healthy!!) :-)

I agree with Connie, we are big honey users. When someone is sick I tend to go for that.

Poor thing. Keep your spirits up.

Sounds exactly like what is going through my house. It is funny because I thought the same thing... the ONLY drawback to have loads of kids... the only negative thing I can come up with is when we all get sick!

I am so glad you get to be an at home mom to take care of them all.

Oh, hope you are all feeling better soon.

My kids were all sick over part of the Christmas break, and just now it caught up with me and I've got a horrible cold -- thought I'd been spared I'd been spared, but not.

I know what you mean about them getting cuddly when they are sick. Mine do that too.

Hope nobody else gets it as bad,

I hope they feel better soon. Are the blisters due to the fever or possible coxsackie virus, that spreads like crazy and makes them feel awful and despite what others say, reinfection does occur.

Blessings! The only time I feel like we have a large family is when everyone is vomiting. I only have 4, so I can only imagine....
Take care

Oh, Christine. I'm so sorry! Do you guys get flu shots? I had the flu last year (none of my family got it, thank goodness) and was so miserable I vowed my family would get the shots from now on!

Oh poor Jonny! That is so sad when they are so sick and pathetic, but the snuggling is the best! I hope everyone recovers soon.

That really sucks!

I remember being little and it seemed like our oldest sister, Rachael always got it first and gave it to all the rest of us.
Rachael used to always tell us to remember... It is more blessed to give then receive. AGGH.

Hope everyone is feeling well again soon.
