100th Day of School

Today, Andrew counted out 100 marshmallows. His class is doing a 100th day of school celebration. What was really cool was that Andrew counted by twos as he made groups of 10.
Until today, I thought that this 100th day celebration thing was unique to our school. I was excited to see that Kathy's daughter did the same thing today. :)

I think it's become common. When I was growing up I don't think anyone even thought about it. But now there's such concern to make sure the kids are in school for exactly the right number of days.

We must have started school about the same time. Ours kept moving earlier and earlier. Two years ago we started Aug 4 and it was going to be Aug 2 the next year.

Then they made a law that school in FL had to start within 15 days of Sept. 1. Good thing or we'd be going back in July and getting out in April. Gotta get everything taught before FCATs.

We have a children's book called "The 100th Day of School" (Hello Reader Level 2) and Jasmine took it in to read with her class.

The 100th Day is a pretty standard celebration in K-1 grades. I'm a little bummed that, since I'm now teaching second grade, we don't do the big celebration. We're not to 100 yet! And, we end school on 21 June. 21 JUNE!!

When my youngest went to K and first grade in our old town, she did 100th day of school projects. I haven't heard anything so far with this one. I think we're past our 100th day by now. I think it is a neat thing.
